“You made yourself visible to her weeks ago and not revealing your identity sooner, might make it harder for her to accept.”
Annoyance crept over me, stealing my thought process and turning me into a disgruntled fool. Rising, I shoved my hands into the pockets of my jeans and paced the room. “What do I do, then?”
“Other than bide your time, I haven’t the faintest idea.”
“Bide my time hoping her memory will return while she decides to make a family with another man?” the words came out harsher than I intended. I stopped and glanced at him. “Sorry, doc.”
“Perfectly all right, son.”
“Maybe I should just go back home and leave her be.” I resumed pacing. “The last four weeks have been a living hell. Not only have I neglected my children, but I also can’t seem to focus. Every day since I’ve walked into that restaurant and discovered my wife is Krishve, I’ve waited for a sign, something to make me believe fate isn’t a cruel motherfucker determined to play with people’s emotions.”
“Maybe it’s her time to live another life.” Landers shrugged.
I uttered a caustic laugh. “I’d walk through hell for that woman, doc. There’s no way I’d give her up so easily.”
“Even if she might not want you?”
I stopped pacing and stared at him, chewing the insides of my cheek in contemplation. “I always get what I want, doc. It’s a motto that’s held me in good stead and it will take a miracle for me to walk away from her without trying to let her know how much I love her.”
“I like your beliefs, Trent but what do you have?”
“Arrogance.” I shrugged at his frown. “I’ll seduce her if I have to.”
Landers laughed. “Something tells me I should believe you.”
“You should.” Even as I answered, I still wished for a sign that would me what to do. “Still, I just wish I had something to guide my next move—” I trailed off, staring at the ceiling, praying for answer. As I dropped my gaze, it fell to a shiny object near the leather couch. I picked it up, staring at it for long moment. Laughing, I turned to face Landers. “I believe I’ve found my answer, doc.”
He glanced at the object I held up, stood and skirted the table to my side. “Isn’t that Ashrika’s chain?”
“Yes. Fate is on my side, doc.”
Confusion lined his brow. Grinning, I fished a chain from my pocket then held the two half pendants out for the doctor to inspect. His eyes widened in disbelief. When I brought the two halves together and clipped them into place to form a whole heart, he gasped.
“It’s a perfect match.”
“We are.” I smiled staring down at the two chains joined together by the heart. “Seasons come and seasons go but we will always be one heart and two souls. That’s what she’d told me when she gave me this when we married.” Tears glazed my eyes at the memory. “We’d been married for three years before she fell pregnant and seven months later, the complications began. “Ironically, this is my way back to her, doc.”
“How?”
“You mentioned she should go out and have fun. Enjoy herself to relieve stress. If I can manipulate her outings to include me, it might give me a chance to spend more time with her. Hopefully, it might trigger her memory and in the event, it doesn’t, she’d get to know me better.” I explained, my tone wistful.
“You’re going to make her fall in love with you again?” Landers’ brow rose with a gentle smile.
I laughed. “That’s the idea.”
“I don’t see any harm in that. If anything, I think it might help if the truth is revealed. One question though?”
“Yes.”
“How do you intend to use that to your advantage?” He pointed to the chain.
“I’m hoping it will be the reason she starts talking to me. So far, she’s been reticent around me. Maybe, this little trinket will change that.” I kissed the pendant.
“I wish you all the best.” Landers smiled. “Honestly, I’ve had a few amnesia cases that had me stumped but Ashrika’s is the rarest one. I pray has a happy ending for you both. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve another appointment I need to get ready for and I hope to see you soon with Ashrika of course.”
“Thanks, doc, for your help and patience.” After a quick handshake, I headed for the elevator. While I waited for the car to ascend, I stared at the chain. “You and I will have a date with a lovely lady, soon.” I grinned.
