Axe snickered. “It’s the best you’ll ever get out of him.”
I tossed a playful wink in Dee’s direction. “I don’t know, I think sometimes he can surprise you.”
And God dammit, when I saw Dante’s cheek blush again, the guys erupted into bombastic laughter.
“Awww, look at those cute wittle cheekies!” Rocker exclaimed as he walked over and pinched all over Dante’s body.
“He’s just cute as a wittle, bitty button,” Locker said with a massive smile on his face.
Wolf quickly snapped a picture with his cell. “This has to go on a wall somewhere. Or maybe on some wallpaper that we decorate a room with.”
“That we decorate the clubhouse with,” Mav said, then he shoved a piece of gum into his mouth.
Dante peered over at me, and I swear I watched that shadow of a grin softly crawl across his cheeks. There was something sexy as hell about that man. About the unassuming strength that he had lying beneath his muscles, pulled taut over his body. He licked his lips and his gaze cased me, as if he were envisioning what he’d do next with the body beneath the baggy clothes I had found for myself that morning.
God, I couldn’t wait to straddle his face and—
“All right, all right,” Axe said, holding up his hands.
I was impressed with how quickly the guys shut up.
“Now that we understand what’s really going on,” he said, inching his hand back down to his side, “we’re going to double down on the security around the clubhouse as well as our back road routes. Leave the main ones clear.”
“We also need a detail on Brielle at all times,” Rocker said.
Locker nodded. “If her organs are the end game, we have to watch her like a hawk.”
“You leave that to us,” Mav said as he stood beside me, tall and proud.
“Thank you, guys,” I said.
“For what?” Blaze asked.
“For wanting to protect me, even though I’ve pissed you off.”
Wolf came out from around the table and walked over to me. He stalked toward me, really, with his gaze latched to mine and his shoulders hunched. He looked like his name. His eyes sparkled with mischievousness and his hair was wild around his head.
And as he stood in front of me, he dipped down, placing his hands on his knees, and looked me squarely in my face.
“You’re with us now,” he said plainly, “and you’ll be protected as such. Got it?”
Mutters of approval ricocheted across the room, and it took all I had not to burst into tears. “Got it.”
He reared back up. “Good. Now, Axe, you were saying something about luring her out?”
“Lure her out?” Dante asked. “You think she wouldn’t see through that kind of a plan?”
“It’d give us a chance to snatch her up if we pulled it off,” Axe said.
“Is she really that stupid, though?” Locker asked.
Mav shrugged and beat me to the punch. “When your life is on the line, wouldn’t you do stupid things to save it?”
“But what if it doesn’t lure her out?” Locker asked as he stood to his feet. “We got a backup plan for that kinda shit?”
The man with the scar across his face finally spoke. The one man who had kept his mouth shut while staring me down the entire fucking time.
“Then, it’s a good thing I’m always on the hunt,” he said gruffly.
