Dante nodded. “Yep, pretty uneventful charity event, if you ask me.”
I narrowed my eyes. “You told us you had found her. Yet, I don’t see her with you. What the hell happened? Bad intel?”
Dante shook his head and dropped his arm, releasing who we thought was Brielle. But clearly, he didn’t think that was her. And honestly, neither did I.
So, where the fuck was our girl?
“I saw her. She was there, all right. But by the time we established a perimeter, she was gone,” Dante said.
“Fuck!” I exclaimed.
Mav chewed on the inside of his cheek. “We may not get another opportunity like that.”
With my back turned, I pulled my gun off my hip. I whipped around and pointed that damned thing straight at that woman’s fucking head, but I turned around only to find that she had beat me to the punch. She held out two guns, one in each hand, and as she leveled them at both Dee and Mav, I stilled my gut.
“Hello, Rachel,” I said.
She practically spat at me. “That isn’t my name.”
Mav shook his head and continued eating, as if being held at gunpoint by the deadliest woman we’d ever pursued wasn’t enough to shut off his stomach.
“Not what your medical records say,” he said with his mouth full.
“Didn’t your mother ever teach you to chew and swallow before you talk?” she asked flatly.
“No,” Mav said with a smile.
“You fucking bitch,” Dante growled.
“Awww, how sweet,” she said as she cocked both of her guns, “he’s trying to flirt.”
I walked toward the woman until the barrel of my gun sat against her forehead. “Where is she?”
“Where’s who?” she asked with a smirk.
I cocked my gun as well. “Brielle. Where is she?”
The woman grinned wildly, and I almost pulled that trigger. Watching her bloody body drop to the ground would have been the highlight of my fucking evening.
But we had to figure out what in the fuck she had done with Brielle.
“He won’t ask you again,” Mav said.
The woman giggled. “I swear, it’s like taking candy from a baby with you guys.”
“Where is she?!” I bellowed.
The damn bitch didn’t even flinch. “You ask such boring questions. Anyone got any better questions?”
“Yeah, I do,” Dante said as he turned to face her. “What the fuck do you want?”
She shrugged. “Needed a way out of that venue. I swear, you boys are relentless.”
His shadow cloaked her. “I didn’t ask what you wanted. I asked what you want now. Right now. Right this second.”
She smiled up at him. “You could’ve plugged me the second we got outside. You knew who I was. Or, at the very least, you had an inkling. Right?”
I looked over at Dante. “Is she telling the truth?”
