“Unless they’re coming with Griggs,” Ranger said.

That gave me pause. “Do we have any reason to believe that?”

He shrugged. “It’s not off the table, that’s for sure.”

I sighed heavily. “But, that’s protocol for a situation like this. I wouldn’t be surprised if my face made it to the local media as well, now that I’ve been spotted.”

“Jesus, you’re amazing,” Dutch said.

He scooped me back into his arms and I couldn’t help but kiss him. The command in his lips clattered our teeth together, and the way his hands roamed down my back made me want to throw him onto the bed and stake myself on his dick. We had to focus, though. Gordon was coming for us, and I knew it wouldn’t end well.

It never did when Gordon was pissed.

“Stay safe, okay?” I whispered against his lips.

Dutch smiled as his nose nuzzled against my own. “Always. After all, I got my lucky girl as my charm.”

I took a step back from him. “Troop?”

“Yeah?” he asked.

“Maybe do a bit more than pranks for the traps.”

He threaded his fingers into my hair and pulled me close. “Anything you say, pretty girl.”

Our lips crashed together in a searing kiss that damn near buckled my knees. But, it was Ranger’s arms that caught me. Those strong, bulging arms that damn near filled my torso as he held me up onto my feet. Troop’s tongue caressed the roof of my mouth, sending a moan straight from mine and down his throat.

I wanted nothing more than to keep them at my side, so I knew they’d be safe.

“All right, all right,” Ranger said as he broke our delectable kiss, “leave some for the rest of us.”

And when I turned to face my Mountain Man, he gripped my chin.

“You stay here until we come for you. Be a good girl for me, okay?”

I melted into his body. “Just come back to me. It’s all I ask.”

He placed the softest kiss to my lips. His thumb stroked my lower lip as my mouth parted for him. I sucked on his tongue, eager to taste him one last time in case--.

No, they’d come back to me. There wasn’t another option.

Because any other option just might kill me in the process.

“Now, go,” I whispered.

“You heard the woman,” Ranger said as he pulled away from me, “let’s head on out. Dutch, I want to know everything we don’t already know about Gordon and his whereabouts.”

“On it,” Dutch said as he marched out of the room.

I heard them talking down the hallway as Ranger kept barking orders. “Troop, you get started on this house. I want every crevice, entry point, exit point, window, and room stacked to the nines with traps. Motion sensors. The works.”

“Got it,” Troop said.

The last thing I heard was that door at the end of the hallway rolling closed. The hissing of the hydraulics sealed me inside, and silence blanketed me. It was as if they had stuffed me into another universe. A little pocket to stow away their most precious goods in case something ever happened. A chill shivered its way down my spine. With everything they had figured out about Gordon, I didn’t know what he was capable of any longer. Nothing, and everything, all at the same time.

The fear brought tears to my eyes as I turned inward toward the room.

“At least I’ve got a lot of books to keep me company,” I whispered.
