“I don’t kill men blindly,” I said as I focused on the shimmer finally emerging against the blade. “That’s Range’s territory.”
That’s when Trooper started spitting it out. “I don’t want him dead… yet.”

His voice vibrated as he spoke. “She just admitted to me that her fiancée borderline rapes her.”
My movements froze. “What do you mean, borderline?”
He rushed toward me and perched on the edge of my bed in front of me. “She was just upstairs on the balcony. About the jump. The whole nine.”
My eyes narrowed as I studied his face. “But, she’s all right?”
He waved his hand in the air as his voice grew hoarse.
It always grew hoarse when he was pissed.
“Yeah, yeah, she’s all right,” he said before he raked his hands through his hair. “But, she did admit to me that that he wakes her up with his cock in the mornings and doesn’t even have the decency to give her a fucking orgasm in the process.”
I turned my attention back to my knife. “It’s a shame, but it doesn’t sound like--.”

My knuckles turned white as I clutched the hilt of my knife. “He what now?”

I stood to my feet and grabbed both of my knives, one for each hip. And as I tucked them into the holsters on my belt, I cleared my throat.
“Give me a day and I’ll have a file on him.”
Troop sighed with relief as he stood. “Thank fuck. Okay, one down, one to go.”
I ran down a brief plan for my day in my head. “You going to talk to Range?”
