“So, you want me to trust you, but you don’t want to tell me anything? Like, the logistics of how we’re going to get out of here? Or some sort of map? Or any sort of plan you’ve come up with in that crazy head of yours?”

And as he stood there, keeping his stare locked with that door, I relegated myself to his silence.

Because he really, honest to goodness, didn’t trust me one damn bit.

FANGS

As I peered over my shoulder, I got a chance to study Julia as I waited for our moment. I still had no fucking clue if I should even take her with me. But those screams at night? The tears she shed? The desperation in the way she wanted to throw herself to the dogs in order to save her sister? It all seemed genuine. No red flags flew their way around my mind whenever she opened up to me, but the problem was that I couldn’t shake how genuine Harley had been in those early days.

You know, before we figured out she was a lying little snake.

She ended up siding with you guys, though.

I shook away the voice in my head and focused on the here and now. We had to get out of there before Bullet’s men rushed the clubhouse and took everyone by surprise. Whatever the fuck those assholes were planning, it wasn’t good, and my men were sitting ducks without me.

A soft warmth along the small of my back pulled me out of my trance. It wasn’t until I looked over that I found Julia standing beside me, her touch sizzling me to my core.

I decided to step away for fear of opening up something that wasn’t necessary.

“What?” she asked with a snicker. “You still think girls have cooties?”

I sighed. “Just don’t know who I can trust right now.”

She chewed on the inside of her cheek. “Are you always this mistrusting of captive girls?”

I chuckled. “You’d be surprised how deceptive they can be.”

“Well, I’m not one of them.”

I shrugged. “And when I know that for myself, maybe things will change.”

I knew she took offense. The fallen look that overtook her face told me everything I needed to know about how she felt regarding what I had said. But I wasn’t going to lie to the woman. I didn’t know her well enough to care about sparing her feelings. If she wanted to play, “get to know my captive friend,” that was on her. I didn’t have the time nor the energy, though.

I had to conserve it for what came next.

“You think they’re going to try and starve us out?” Julia asked.

I shook my head. “Bullet won’t allow it.”

“You sure do talk about this guy like you know him or something.”

“Or something, yeah.”

She fully turned to face me. “So, what is that something? How do you know so much about him?”

Fine. If she wanted to know, I’d let her in on my secret.

I stared her directly in her eyes as I told her. “Because women aren’t the only people Bullet enjoys torturing.”

She swallowed hard. “Jesus Christ. Whatever he’s done, I’m so sorry.”

I turned my gaze back toward the door up the eleven steps in front of me. “Yeah, I could say the same about you.”

“Do you?”

“Huh?”
