“No,” I said plainly.

“What? You too much of a pussy to let company inside your place?”

“Say your peace or get the fuck out. Those are your only options.”

He snickered. “Ah, this must be about the pretty bitch on the back of your bike we saw earlier.”

My gnashed my teeth together. “Message. Now.”

“Look, the pretty piece of ass you got for yourself tonight ain’t gotta be part of this. Besides, you think we can’t see her crying through your bathroom window?”

My back stiffened. “If you so much as lay a god damn finger on her—”

Plank chuckled. “Open the door and the bitch lives to see another dick.”

I wanted to throw that door open and put bullets between the beady eyes I knew would be staring back at me. But if they had eyes on Rose, then any move I made was a move against her safety. I gritted my teeth and girded my loins, hoping that I was making the right decision.

I sure as hell didn’t uncock my gun, though.

But I did open the door and throw it open.

“What?” I asked as I pointed the gun directly between the eyes of the man standing in front of me.

He held his hands up in mock surrender. “We simply come bearing a message.”

“Then, get it out so we can all get on with our evenings.”

And that was when he dropped the bomb. “We know where you have Wes.”

I did my best to put on a poker face. “I’m sure you do.”

He licked his lips. “Not only do we know that you’re hiding him at that pathetic little clubhouse of yours near the water, but we don’t care what you do with him.”

What?“Okay, I’ll bite. What’s the real point of this message?”

“The point is,” he said as he slipped his arms back to his sides, “that Wes only gives a shit about money. He’s shallow and was only a means to a very temporary end.”

My lips ticked into a grin. “But you care about his money, too. Is that what this is about?”

Plank’s grin slid right off his motherfucking face. “Release the money that is rightfully ours, or we’ll kill everyone you’ve ever cared about.”

I shrugged. “Sure, I’ll think about it.”

Plank took one step into my apartment, and I bucked up against him. That man wasn’t getting anywhere near my desk setup, much less closer to Rose.

“You have two days,” the man snarled at he got into my face, “and if you don’t give us our money in forty-eight hours, someone pretty important to Bullet is going to go missing very, very soon.”

“I take it you’re going to fill me in on who that is because you think it’ll scare me more?”

The instant that fucker rattled off the safehouse address where we were keeping Harley, alarm bells rang in my mind. They knew a great deal about our movements despite the fact that we knew none of theirs, and that pissed me off. We were more sophisticated. We had more money sunken into our procedures and protocols. Hell, we had the entire fucking town at our back.

So, who in the absolute fuck was ratting on us?

“Release the money,” Plank said as he stepped back out of my apartment, “and Harley stays alive. But if you don’t? We’ll take Nadia, Lila, and Aria with us. You know, just because we can.”

“Are you done?” I asked.

Plank nodded. “We’ll be in touch.”
