“Come on, let’s get out of here before Fangs finds us,” Viper said as he turned to face me.
“Ah,” Wes groaned out as he rolled over onto his back, “so, the big, bad, bossman doesn’t know you’re in here torturing his only connection to the Devil’s Rage. Nice.”
I shot a muffled bullet right between that asshole’s legs, and I’d never heard a man reach into the clouds for the note that soared out of his mouth.
“That’s your only warning,” I said flatly.
“I’ve got questions for you guys, too, if you’re willing to entertain a prisoner,” he said breathlessly.
I patted Viper’s arm. “Come on, he’s just baiting us. I need to get to work, anyway.”
But he had Viper on that line. “What is it? Spit it out so we can get on with our lives.”
“Viper,” I murmured.
Wes snickered. “How’s Em’s pussy treating you nowadays? Is it as juicy as I remember it being?”
I swear, it didn’t matter how big Viper got in the gym, that man could move like a crack of thunder. One moment, he stood beside me, and the next second he had crossed the room and slammed Wes into the wall.
Punch after punch landed, and I couldn’t get my gun holstered quickly enough.
“Viper! Stop!” I exclaimed.
“You keep her name out of your fucking mouth,” Viper growled.
He punctuated each word with a punch until Wes wasn’t making any sort of noise. I wrapped my arms around him, trying my best to pull him off the guy before he killed him with his bare hands. Blood splattered everywhere before Viper shoved me off to the side. He threw his arms back, causing Wes to plummet to the ground in a bloody pile of lifelessness, and I honest-to-God thought he had killed the man.
“Viper, cut it out!” I bellowed.
But he reached down for the man’s collar and held him up to the sky. “You die tonight.”
“What in the fuck are you doing!?”
Fangs’ voice echoed off the corners of the small room the three of us were in and I froze. Like a bat soaring its way into the icy bowls of hell, my entire body locked up as Viper dropped Wes back down to the ground.
I thought the man was dead until he choked out a set of words that shivered me to my core.
“No one you—you guys care ab—about is—is safe.”
Viper raised his fist into the air again before Fangs rushed him and caught his hand in midair. He wrapped it behind Viper’s back, effectively shoving me out of the way before slamming the walking mountain into the closest wall.
“Talk. Now,” Fangs demanded.
Viper bucked against our president. “I had to get information out of him. Lila’s life is at risk if he gets out.”
Fangs gnashed his teeth together. “What, you think I’m letting this asshole get away?”
Viper scoffed. “You made it easier for him when you put him in handcuffs that can easily be picked.”
Fangs pressed his knee into the small of Viper’s back. “And it’s a mistake I won’t make again.”
Viper quickly maneuvered out of Fangs’ grasp and whipped around, staring down at the man. “No, you won’t, because I went ahead and put him back in the zip ties. Both around his ankles, and his wrists. So, I would hope that they won’t be disturbed again if we’re really trying to keep him here. Right?”
Fangs’ eyes narrowed. “What is it that you’re accusing me of, exactly?”
“Do I really have to spell it out for you?”
Silence fell heavily on top of our shoulders before I drew in a deep breath.
