After slipping away from his grasp, I dialed my sister’s number as I closed the bedroom door behind me. Her phone rang and rang, and the more it rang the deeper my brow furrowed. Odd. My sister always picked up her phone. But then again, with everything that had happened it wouldn’t have shocked me one bit if she was shacked up with whoever the hell she had been screwing around with all this time.
So, I decided to call her office number.
“Come on, where are you, Nadia?” I whispered.
“Hi there! You’ve reached Nadia Du—”
I hung up the phone and tried her cell one last time, but when she didn’t pick up, I grew worried. I chewed on the inside of my cheek as I turned back toward the closed door behind me, but something in the pit of my gut gave me pause.
Before Fangs sprinted down the hallway.
“Aria! Bender!”
He stormed through the bedroom door, causing Bender to wince as he sat up. “What is it? What’s going on?”
I swallowed hard. “It’s Nadia, isn’t it?”
Fangs’s eyes darted between the two of us. “Church. Now.”
“Fangs, what’s happened?” I asked curtly.
Bender tossed his feet over the edge of the bed. “Fill us in, man. What's going on?”
And that was when the most horrific words anyone had ever spoken to me fell from that man’s mouth.
“They’ve taken Nadia,” Fangs said breathlessly. “The Devil’s Rage have Nadia.”
