I rolled my eyes. “I say whatever I can to win a fight. I’ve always been that way. My entire life, people have done nothing but judge me. They try to control my actions because I’m the baby in my family so, obviously, I’m the most delicate. But if we’re being real right now—if we’re being honest—yes, I trust you. You saved my life today. Twice. And I know you’ll keep me safe so long as you’re around.”
He scooted closer to me. “You will always be safe, no matter what it takes of me. Understood?”
I smoothed my thumb along his lower lip. “Promise?”
His hand crept behind my head. “On my soul, I promise.”
He pulled me in for a deep, teeth-clattering kiss and I quickly climbed into his lap. His hands cupped the small globes of my ass and his dick rose to the occasion. My arms draped around his neck. My legs spread for him, our hips bucking in time with the rapid beating of our hearts. His tongue swiped across the roof of my mouth and goosebumps fled across my entire body, giving away how much I wanted him.
“God damn it, you’re addictive,” he growled against my lips.
But the second I reached for his leather vest to slide it off, a phone rang.
“Is that yours?” I whispered.
He grumbled beneath his breath. “Damn it, it is.”
I bent down and kissed his neck. “Can it wait?”
He jammed his hand into the pocket of his jeans. “Unfortunately, no. That’s Angel’s ringtone. They’re probably wondering where the hell I am.”
My hands slid down his etched chest. “Even just a few minutes?”
I nibbled along his neck and he panted. “Fucking hell, you’re insane. You know that?”
I kissed the shell of his ear. “Is that a ‘yes, it can wait’?”
But he still pulled his cell phone out and held it up to his ear. “What’s up Angel.”
I laid my head down against his shoulder and listened to the conversation. I mean, it wasn’t hard to eavesdrop. He had the volume cranked up to an ungodly level, and I heard every word that man spoke on the other end. Bullet and his fiends had already shown up at the nightclub, demanding to take over.
And the second Bender hung up the phone, I slid off his lap.
“Fuck them up for me, handsome.”
He chuckled as he slid his leather vest back onto his shoulders. “I’ll do my worst, gorgeous.”
I watched as he made his way quickly for the door, but he paused and turned to face me before he opened it.
“I’ll come back once this is all figured out, okay?” he said.
I nodded. “I’ll hopefully see you soon, then.”
And as he slipped out the door, closing it behind him with a soft thud, I wondered what this all meant. I wondered if I was setting myself up to fall for someone that had the capacity to completely shatter my heart.
Again.
NINETEEN
BENDER
The second I crested the hill and Heist came into view, I knew it was going to be bad. Fangs was facing off against Bullet with both of the clubs perched behind their respective presidents, and I knew I had fucked up. I had beyond fucked up.
I parked my bike and made my way to Fangs’s side while the men bickered with one another.
“Give me the keys, or I tell my men to unload their magazines,” Bullet warned.
Fangs chuckled. “My name is the one on the deed to this place, not Bender’s. He doesn’t have a right to promise you anything. And besides, handing you the fucking keys doesn’t make you magically the owner.”
