“Can we find his mother and bring her here to live with us?” I ask, not understanding who this woman is.
I pass Bradon onto Brady so that he can hold his son, because I know the second he has him in his arms he will feel the love that I did.
He takes him and looks scared. “He’s so precious. How old is he?”
“I’d say a few days old. What about his mom?” I ask, watching him. His face shuts down with emotion.
Judd takes Bradon and passes him back to me.
“Spider, you need to talk. Is she really a Vasquez?”
Spider looks at him and nods his head.
“How long have you been involved with her?” Judd is losing his cool. I can see his eyes darkening and that’s when I know that he’s getting angry.
“It was about a year ago. I bumped into her in town, and there was something about her that I had to know. We went for a drink or two and one thing led to another. We were together for a couple of months. I saw her every opportunity I could. But then she just stopped turning up where we had arranged. She changed her number, and I never heard from her again. Is this why? Did she think that I wouldn’t want her if she was pregnant with my child?”
“Maybe she didn’t want her family to know that she was dating a Rebel Heart?” Judd says and I think he might be right.
“The last night I was with her she told me she loved me and that she would do anything for me. This must have been what she was talking about.” Brady picks up his beer bottle and throws it at the wall. “FUCK!”
“Listen, Spider,” Tank says. “We need to let Prez know, and then we need to make a plan. In the meantime, Lyssa, can you help look after him?”
“Of course, he’s my nephew. I love him already.” I look up at Judd and he has a funny look on his face.
“Seeing you with a baby is doing things to me, Lyssa.”
“Fuck you, man,” Brady says. “She’s my sister.”
I laugh and hold Bradon tighter.
Judd looks at Brady. “You’re keeping him, right?”
Brady pushes Judd. “Of course I fucking am.”
“Good, because I don’t think Lyssa is ready to let go yet.”
We all stand there looking at Bradon and then Brady says, “Tank, we were born to be rebels do you know that?”
“I do, man.”
“I want to find Rosa. I want her here with her son. Our son.” Brady looks at me.
“Are you sure, man? This is going to cause a war. One that we’ve tried not to start, but with the men dead who took Lyssa, we are definitely on their wavelength. But if we kidnap their precious daughter, how long do you think we will have before a war starts?”
“I don’t fucking care, I need my woman. I don’t care who her family are.”
I watch as my brother and the man I love hug each other, slapping their shoulders like guys do.
“Once a rebel, always a rebel.” Judd says.
