I can feel the cold barrel on my temple and it reminds me of the day that I tried to end it myself. I feel differently now. I don’t want to die. I want to see where my life with the Rebel Hearts will lead. I want to see how my relationship with Tank plays out.
“Just because you’ve brought me to your old, derelict warehouse twenty minutes away from town, doesn’t mean I want to lie down and let you kill me quickly. With my broken leg I can’t fight back and that doesn’t seem even. I did not steal money from you. You were running crypto trading for me. I did not know that the money that came my way was so that I could launder it for you. I think when you set a deal up with someone in the future you need to make sure they know the rules before they start.”
“Would you have done it if you knew?”
“Never!”
“Then you see why we don’t do that. When you have a debt that we pay off, you belong to us and you will do what we ask. You did not do that.” He looks at the gun. Opens the barrel and smiles. He turns the gun to face me so that I can see there is only one bullet in the barrel. “Now, let's play a game of Russian Roulette.”
Fuck, I’m not going to survive Russian Roulette twice. The odds are not in my favor.
Do I plead for my life from a man who doesn’t give a fuck? Or do I uphold my dignity and just let him kill me when the barrel decides it’s my time? He spins the barrel and then closes it, placing the gun at my temple, once more. I close my eyes andthink of Tank and I’m grateful that we got one night together. I want to take the memories of him with me, so I recall all of our conversations, and interactions. A smile plays on my face, as the gun clicks but no bullet comes out.
“You must be lucky,” the boss says, opening the gun and spinning the barrel once again.
As he places the gun at my temple, I pray that this is not the end. I don’t want to die like this. I want to live. I want to have Tank as my man. I want to be the family my brother deserves. But as I kneel here, with a broken leg and a gun at my head, I don’t think it’s going to be possible.
I hear the click of the gun, the barrel moves around. I take a deep breath, the only consolation is that it won’t hurt because it will all be over before I know it.
BANG. That’s the last thing I hear before I slump to the floor.

TANK
"Fuck," I hear Lyssa scream.
"What the fuck was that. Lyssa?" My heart is beating fast, what the fuck is going on?
"A truck just hit me. I think my leg is broken." I’m moving through the clubhouse to find Spider. We need to move on this now, not wait for Prez to tell us to jump into action. Lyssa is hurt, and I need to get to her.
"Lyssa, I'm going to ring the fucking prospects and ask them what the fuck they are doing."
"Tank, someone's here. They're taking me. Tank, save me." She’s not loud, or panicky, she’s quite like she’s trying to hide that she’s on the phone.
“What the fuck? I’m going to ring those prospects neck for this. They should never have left you there. Any of you.” Spider looks at me and I nod my head for him to come over.
“What’s going on, Tank?”
I hand the phone over to him, he puts it on speaker and mutes our side of the call..
"You stupid bitch. Did you think you'd be able to get away from the Vasquez family? And those stupid bikers don't know anything.” Spider looks up at me.
“What the fuck is happening? Have they taken her? Where are the prospects?”
Prez comes over to us. “I’ve just got a call from Winnie and she says that someone just hit Lyssa with their truck and then put her in the back and drove off with her.”
“We’re just after finding out for ourselves. We’ve got to go and find her, Prez.”
“Of course, but we need to make sure the ladies get back in one piece and maybe they can give us some more information.”
I know he’s right, the more information the better. But, I can’t sit here and do nothing.
“Prez, the longer we leave it the more chance of them Killing, Lyssa.” I’m looking at Spider. I know he feels the same as me.
“When the ladies get here, we will have Church. We need to set up a plan. All of us. And no going off on your own, again.” Prez stares at me and Spider.
