“It’s the truth.”Pops. Garridan shook his head.
“I know. I’m in your head.”
Yeah, Garridan could feel him there.
Chapter Nineteen
Sage watched as Rory left the house with Teagan. Teagan tried to open the car door for him, but Rory growled low in his throat at the gesture. Sage shook his head and went to turn from the window, but arms came around his waist. He leaned his head against Garridan’s chest and closed his eyes.
“I’m sorry I crashed your meeting.” Sage took one of Garridan’s hands and lifted it to his lips, kissing the palm.
“It’s okay, baby.”
“I’ll listen to you next time,” Sage said.
Garridan chuckled. “I seriously doubt that.”
“Are you ready to go to my house?” Sage asked, smiling.
“We can’t, baby. Look.” Garridan pointed to something in the yard.
Sage tried to see past the outside house light and into the dark.
A person stepped into the light just as he tried to focus. He saw Magnus, who scowled but also seemed a little sad. “I don’t think he’s a threat, Garridan. I think he just wants to talk to Ladon. You remember what that felt like. I remember that. I wanted you so bad,but at the same time you scared the crap out of me.” Sage rubbed his ass against Garridan’s groin. “I’m so glad you turned out to be a gentle dragon.”
“Only with you,” Garridan said.
“That’s true. He’s really not that gentle of a dragon. Well, maybe if you counted that time when he tore Bennett’s house up, screaming ‘give me my mate’ at the top of his lungs.” Vaughan opened the refrigerator, standing there as if it held the key to his future or something.
Bennett walked into the room and smacked Vaughan on the back of the head as he passed. “Close the refrigerator door, stupid.” He got a glass down from the cupboard and ran the tap water, filling the glass.
Vaughan pulled out a can of soda and shut the door. He stood next to Bennett. “What are you doing?”
Bennett rolled his eyes. “Getting Lucas something to drink. Why are you being so annoying right now?”
Vaughan shrugged. “I’m bored.”
“Read a book. Or watch a movie. Or better yet, go to bed,” Bennett said.
Vaughan grinned. “I love how you try to give me suggestions. I would do those things, but I find it much more relaxing to torment Sage.” Vaughan turned his eyes on Sage who groaned.
Sage turned in Garridan’s arms. “Please, can we go home? Just for one night. He’s going to drive me crazy.” Sage pointed a finger at Vaughan, who was grinning like an idiot. “Look at him. He’s going to knock on our door every five minutes just to annoy me.”
Vaughan’s face lit up. “That’s a great idea!”
Sage pulled his eyeglasses out of his front pocket and put them on. He knew Garridan thought they were sexy. He gave his best puppy dog eyes.
Garridan sighed. “Please let Ramsey know that Sage and I are going to his cabin. We will be back no later than noon tomorrow. If we’re not back by then come looking for us.”
Bennett nodded once and Vaughan saluted Garridan. “Oh, and Bennett, make sure Ladon doesn’t go outside. Magnus is out there just waiting for his chance to take him. Let Ramsey know as well. I don’t think he’s a threat really, not even to Ladon. But the mate hormones will kick in and Ladon might go with him willingly.”
“Right. Vaughan can stay with Ladon tonight, seeing as he’s so bored and all,” Bennett said.
Vaughan chuckled. “Ladon does need to be cheered up. He’s been a little asshole since the whole Magnus thing.” Vaughan started out of the room, but stopped and turned, a serious expression on his face. “You guys, Ramsey included, played that whole situation all wrong. You’d do better to just invite him in here and explain that he has to wait for Ladon. Sage is right about him. He just wants his mate. Communication is the key in this situation.” With that, Vaughan left the room.
Sage decided to build the fire while Garridan looked around outside, making sure there were no threats. Garridan was so on edge that Sage wasn’t sure if the alone time would be worth all the worry. Him stressing over the vampires only made Sage that much more paranoid about them.
He placed another log on the fire just as Garridan came inside. Garridan hung his coat on the rack next to the door and took off his shoes. It felt more domestic than all their other experiences. It was probably due in large part to the fact that they were in Sage’s house, not Mother Estelle’s, and he’d always loved his little cabin.
