“Forrest, honey, let’s leave the room.” Their mother stood. He heard the door close gently as Bennett covered Lucas, forcing him to lie on the bed.
Lucas wrapped his arms around Bennett’s neck and met his lips halfway. It was as if they had been apart for days rather than a few minutes. It had been less than an hour.
When Bennett’s tongue licked across his lips, Lucas opened for him. That tongue invaded his mouth and he got his first real taste of Bennett, even as his mind told him to stop it. It was too fast. And then Bennett did a biting thing to Lucas’ lip that made all thoughts go right out of his head and the blood ran straight to his dick.
Lucas wrapped his legs around Bennett’s waist and kissed him again. Bennett even tasted of cinnamon. He moaned, his fingers lacing through the dark hair on his head.
Bennett broke the kiss suddenly and panted against Lucas’ lips.
“Why’d you stop?” Lucas asked.
“You want to date, right? Like humans do,” Bennett said.
Oh yeah. Lucas was starting to think dating was highly over-rated. “Right. I lost myself.”
Bennett grinned.
Chapter Ten
Someone knocked on Bennett’s back door as he was drying his hair. He smiled, and pictured Lucas standing there waiting for him.
He had jeans on today. Call him vain, but he wanted to look good for Lucas and those coveralls, while practical, didn’t do him any favors. He’d do anything to have Lucas in his arms again, including dressing up just a little bit.
He walked to the front door and pulled it open. His smile died the second he saw Ramsey. “Oh. It’s just you.”
Ramsey rolled his eyes and came into the house. “Nice to see you too, brother.”
“Sorry. I was hoping Lucas decided to come into work earlier than expected.”
“Do you have time to go to the diner for breakfast?” Ramsey asked, leaning against his kitchen counter.
“Yeah. Just barely. Lucas is due in a couple of hours,” Bennett yelled from farther down the hall.
He put the towel on the rack and combed his hair back with his fingers. His hair looked better artfully messy. He picked up the bottle of gel and squirted some onto the palm of his hand, working it into the strands.
“Just let me put a shirt on and we can go.” Bennett nodded to himself in the mirror and left the bathroom. He pulled a green shirt from his closet. His sister, Kristin, had given it to him for Christmas last year. She had said it would enhance his eyes.
He was putting it on even as he walked down the hallway to the kitchen.
Ramsey raised an eyebrow.
“What?” Bennett asked, knowing he was probably about to get teased.
“Nothing. I’ve just never seen you primp before. You never once cared about your hair enough to put gel in it,” Ramsey said, smirking at him. His brown eyes suggested he wasn’t done with his teasing. “You look pretty, little brother.”
Bennett chuckled. “Shut up.” He grabbed his keys from the kitchen table and started out of the door. “My mate was raised as a human. He wants to go slow, which is going to kill me. Thought maybe looking good for him would help speed up the process.”
“Or give you blue balls,” Ramsey said from behind him.
“Yeah. My dragon isn’t very happy right now. The second Lucas left yesterday I got uneasy. I even slept in the chair outside his cabin.”
“That really sucks, man. Having a mate sounds agonizing,” Ramsey said as the door closed behind him. Bennett watched as Ramsey flipped the lock.
“He’s worth it. I can tell already.” Bennett slid into the passenger’s seat of Ramsey’s car.
“Tell me about him,” Ramsey said as he sat behind the wheel. He put the key into the ignition and started up the car.
Bennett smiled. “He’s smaller than me.”
