“I want to be with you forever.”

“Me too,” she whispered. She rolled on top him and sat astride.

“Hmm… We are going to have a lot of fun in the next few days,” he moaned.

“Yes, we will...” she replied just before her lips found the tip of his hard rod. His scream of pleasure was music to her ears.

“So you will be going on your vision quest today then?” Elaina asked as she nuzzled him.

“Yes, my love. I need to go into the village first. I should leave immediately from there but if I have the time, I will stop to see you. I should be away for a couple of weeks, my love because I will need to prepare my mind. Chito will bring our little girl to you later. And I have told him to check on you constantly. You will be safe.” Running Wolf had never been able to shake away that presence he had sensed that day all those months ago.

“Well, I will miss you a great deal. The past few days have been amazing… Look, you really don’t have to stop by before you leave. You can go from there,” she kissed his nose.”

“I will miss you a great deal too, my darling. I want to see you before...”

“It will be much harder to say goodbye to you again. Just leave from there, all right?” He nodded and she stroked his chin.

They sighed and slept off in each other’s arms.

Elaina heard footsteps and she hurried out with a large smile. Her love was back! Even though she had told him not to stop by before he left, she found that she already missed him greatly. Elaina’s smile fell when she saw a strange woman walk towards her. She hugged her child protectively as she said,

“Can I help you?”

The woman smiled and said, “My name is Atola. I am a friend of Running Wolf.”

Elaina narrowed her eyes, “He has never mentioned you.”

Atola’s smile widened, “I don’t think he has mentioned all his friends to you. Anyway, you need to come with me.”

“No, I do not have to do anything that you ask me to do,” Elaina eyed Atola.

“You really have to. There is chaos in the village right now. Running Wolf was about to leave for his vision quest when we got news of a band of soldiers heading to our village. They are led by a man named Tim Grimsson or something like that.”

“Grissom? Oh no! Where is Running Wolf? I have to find him!” Elaina screamed, trying to get around Atola.

“You know you are not allowed in the village. He told me to get you to safety beyond the forest. He will come for you when it’s all over.”

“But… but why didn’t he send Chito? Wait, are they preparing for war?”

“We do not know why this Grimsson is approaching but our warriors will be ready when they strike. Trust RunningWolf. You know he is more than capable. You just need to leave here. He wants you out of harm’s way.”

“But...”

“You love him, don’t you? He can only prepare himself for what is to come when he knows you are safe. Now, come with.”

Elaina nodded and took Atola’s hand. She let her lead her into the forest. She spared one last look at the tepee and muttered, “I will be back soon. Please stay safe, Running Wolf. I can’t lose you too, my love.”

About an hour later, Running Wolf arrived at his now new home. He stopped his black stallion, Wolf and headed in.

“Elaina? Where are you? I know you said I shouldn’t return before I go but I just had to see you. Elaina?”

He was greeted with silence. He swallowed hard and ran to the tepee. His mouth fell open when he saw it was lacking her belongings.

“What… what? This can’t be happening.”

Wolf’s hooves flew through the air as Running Wolf galloped into the village, heading for Chito’s house. The horse pulled to a stop in front of Chito who had to jump back to prevent himself from being trampled.
