I groan and pull myself out of bed and practically stumble through my apartment.

I’m about to rage at whoever has forced me to use the vestiges of my energy to answer the door, but when I open it, Kayla is standing there.

She really is a sight for sore eyes. In the lighting of the hallway, her hair and skin glow. The only thing wrong with this image is the scowl on her face.

“What are you doing here?” I ask.

I step aside and allow her to walk in, carrying several plastic bags.

“When you weren’t at work yesterday I called to see what was up, but you didn’t answer. When you didn’t show up again today, I asked Arthur and he said you aren’t feeling well. So I tried calling again and when you didn’t answer, I got worried. So here I am.”

“That was kind of you.” I walk over to my couch and collapse on it.

“Yeah, and good thing too because you look horrible.”

I summon all my strength to give her a wide smile. “Thanks so much. I always love hearing I look like shit.”

“Seriously, Adam. You don’t look so good. Maybe I should take you to the hospital.”

I wave the idea away. “It’s not that serious. It’s just a little food poisoning.”

“I don’t think it’s so little if it lays you out for more than a day.”

“I will be fine. I don’t need to go to the hospital. I just need to rest. I am sure it hit me harder than it was supposed to because I’ve been running myself ragged.”

“See? I told you. You should take better care of yourself.”

I smile. “Yes, you were right. Moving forward, I will take your advice, but for now, I just need to rest.”

She sighs. “If you have food poisoning, at this point, I’m sure you’re dehydrated. Have you tried to eat or drink anything?”

“No, not really.”

“Adam…” She shakes her head, then reaches into one of the bags she’s carrying and pulls out a tub. “This is chicken noodle soup. Eat as much as you can.” She hands me the soup and a plastic spoon and reaches into the bag again and pulls out a neon pink drink. “When you’re done with that, drink this to replenish your electrolytes.”

“I don’t think I can consume all of this. My stomach is revolting at the idea.”

She smiles. “Eat and drink as much of it as you can. Then you can go back to bed.”

She then sits at my feet. She leans against the coffee table and tilts her chin toward the soup.

I pull the cover off the container and the savory smell that wafts into my face actually makes my mouth water.

I take the first bite and actually moan at how good it is. I take another spoonful of the soup and before I know it I’ve eaten 3/4 of the damn thing, but that’s all I can manage.

Once I put it to the side, Kayla pops the top of the drink she was waving at me earlier, and hands it to me.

That, I polish off, because with every gulp, I feel stronger as the cool liquid slides down my throat.

“Good, now come. I’ll help you back into bed.”

I stand and stagger a little, but before I topple back onto the couch, Kayla is at my side holding me up.

I like that she’s touching me probably more than I should. Even sick, my dick stirs at the proximity.

Although I’m so pleased that she is next to me, I worry because it can’t be a pleasant experience for her to stand next to me right now, because I’m sure I stink. If I do, she doesn’t say anything. Instead, she steers me to my room where she gets me under the covers.

“Thank you.”
