Seeing as life got so serious for me early on, I haven’t had a lot of sexual experiences. I’ve only slept with two other guys besides Adam, but neither of them made me feel even a quarter of what Adam is capable of, even when he was 18.

I’m trying very hard not to read too much into that. Of all the complications I need in my life right now, this is not one of them.

I look over at the alarm clock on my bedside table.

3:58 AM.

Just two minutes before it’s supposed to go off.

I reach over and switch it off so as to not disturb Adam, then I carefully climb out of bed, grab my work clothes, shoes and make-up bag then head into the bathroom.

I put the water on scolding and step into the shower.

I feel a little sad that the soap and shampoo work together to wash Adam from my body.

That’s messed up, but I try my hardest not to think too closely about why I feel that way.

When I’m done with my shower, I have no more clarity than I did before I got in. So I get dressed and do my make-up.

I’m standing in the kitchen and have just put a pot of coffee on. I’m slicing a bagel in half, getting ready to toast it when Adam stumbles out of my room in nothing but his navy blue boxer briefs.

“What are you doing up so early?” He rubs sleep out of his eyes as he takes a seat at the kitchen table.

I’m eternally grateful to that table for hiding his lower half. I would probably burn the hell out of myself on something if his package was on full display.

“I’m getting ready to head into work.”

“This early?”

“Yeah, I like to get in at five so that I’m there when our breakfast show starts at six.”

“Do you have to?”

I shrug. “I guess I don’t have to, but I like to. I like being there just in case I’m needed. Most of our revenue comes from advertising on our breakfast show. So I like to be on ground to deal with any issues that might interfere with that.”

“That’s wise…”

“Yeah, I think so…”

“Do you think I should also be coming in that early?”

“It’s up to you. You don’t have to, but you could. That’s if you have the time.”

“I’ll make the time.”

I smile. “You really are serious about GNN.” I go over to the coffee pot and pour both of us each a cup.

I take a seat at the table and offer him a steaming mug.

“Thank you,” he says as he accepts the cup from me. “Of course, I am. Would I have bought the company if I wasn’t?”

“Probably not, but most of the time when you hear of these kinds of acquisitions, the buyer isn’t as hands-on.”

“No, I guess they usually aren’t, but this means a lot to me.”

“Why?” I ask. He raises an inquisitive eyebrow at me and I chuckle. “I mean, I’m sure even if you were a passive owner, you wouldn’t want GNN to crash and burn. It’s just you seem a little more invested than that.”

“I guess I’m trying to chase the feeling I had back in Vermont. Back then, most people didn’t know who my father was. My accomplishments and my failures were mine. However, ever since I left Montpelier and my dad took me under his wing, everything I’ve done has been a reflection of him.”
