“Sure, you can.”
“Yay!” Brady runs back to the river, grabs another handful of rocks and continues hurling them at the river.
“I don’t think you understand what you’ve done,” I say. “He’s going to want to ride your helicopter every day until the end of time.”
“Whatever he wants…” Adam says as he watches Brady with tears in his eyes.

ADAM
I’ve been floating since yesterday.
I can’t even put words to the feeling getting to meet my son gave me.
Ever since the age of five when I found out I could father a child I have been terrified of the idea. The responsibility involved; being charged with ushering a fully formed human into the world who will be expected to contribute positively to society absolutely shook me.
All that fell away when Brady looked up at me with my own eyes.
It was so surreal and an out of body experience. It was like a step back in time, because I can remember being a young boy and looking into the mirror and seeing Brady’s face look back at me.
Then when he called me Dad? I could’ve dissolved into a puddle right there.
Meeting Brady kicked every single ounce of doubt out of my mind.
I want to spend every waking hour with him. It’s like when you’re a kid and you make a new friend and all you want to do is hang out with them.
It’s true what they say about a parent’s love. I can confidently say I’ve only ever loved four people in my life; my parents, Lucas, and Rachel, my ex fiancé.
My love for my parents is pretty self-explanatory but with Rachel and Lucas, it was more gradual. However, with Brady it all hit me the second I walked up to him and Kayla. I quite literally would end anyone who tried to hurt him.
My first meeting of the day is with Kayla and Arthur.
It’s been over a week since I joined GNN and since Kayla has been doing her new job.
She spent the week coming up with her agenda as the new head of the news division. This meeting is for her to brief Arthur and me on what she hopes to accomplish.
When I get to her office Arthur isn’t here yet. So I take advantage of the privacy.
“Hey Kayla? I need to talk to you about something.”
“Okay…” She slowly caps the pen she was writing with.
“A lot has happened between us over the past week, and it’s not as if we got along swimmingly before that. I just want to make sure that all the drama won’t affect our work relationship.”
She throws her hair over her shoulder, revealing her slender neck, and the action catches my attention.
“Of course. I’m glad you brought it up, because I was actually worried about that too.”
“You were?”
She shrugs. “I was concerned that maybe you are still angry at me for keeping Brady from you for so long. So I wondered how that would show up in our work together.”
“Listen, I am not happy about how you chose to handle this, but that’s all in the past. I’m not one to dwell. So I have my eyesset forward. I’m not holding anything against you. I just need some time to readjust. However, that will not affect any of the work we do here.”
“Good. That makes me happy to hear.”
“Oh, and before Arthur gets here. You should know I told him about our situation.”
