“Hey. What’s up?”

“Not much. As you know, besides work I barely have a life. So I have nothing to report,” he says very matter-of-factly.

I laugh. “I keep telling you, you should do something about that.”

“Well, that’s easier said than done. Especially considering my workload.”

“Excuses, excuses. If you want to have a social life, you would have one.”

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” I hear the eye roll over the phone and it makes me chuckle. “What do you want?”

“You won’t believe who I ran into today.”

“Who?”

“Your sister, Kayla.”

“Oh yeah? Where did you see her?”

“At work.”

“What was she doing at your work?”

“Apparently, she works at the company I just purchased. Global Network News.”

“The news house you bought is GNN?”

“Yes. I can’t believe you didn’t tell me your sister works at GNN, or even that she lives in Cleveland.”

“When would any of that have come up?”

“Okay, maybe not about her working at GNN, but I told you I’m moving to Cleveland. You could have mentioned that Kayla lives here.”

“Why? It’s not like the two of you have ever gotten along.”

“That is true, but you still should’ve told me.”

He laughs. “Okay fine. I’m sorry. The next time you move to a city where any relative of mine lives, I’ll let you know.”

With a smile on my face I shake my head. “You’re such an asshole.”

“Well, it takes one to no one.”

“Oh burn!”

He laughs. “Anyway, I guess it’s good that you’re in Cleveland now. Maybe you can look out for Kayla and her son. I’ve never liked that she lives all the way over there.”

“Kayla has a son?”

“Yeah, have I never mentioned that?”

“No, Lucas, you haven’t.”

“Weird…”

“Yeah, that is weird. Is she married?” I ask. I feel a pang in my chest at the notion.

“No, she isn’t.”
