KAYLA
Adam and I have broken up. Or at least I think that’s what happened. It’s been two weeks since the fight and we haven’t spoken. Not even once.
I know couples fight. Adam and I have fought a few times, but never like this.
I feel like I could forgive pretty much anything, but being blamed for what happened with Maurice is where I draw the line.
I honestly don’t see how I could have known what he and Gabrielle were up to, and I didn’t appreciate being scolded for not knowing.
I really do think we can come back from this, but if he wants to give up and do away with the company, then I’m not going to fight him. He hasn’t made any announcements as to what he has ultimately decided to do with the company. So I have been going to work as usual and doing the best I can with what I have.
He knows how much GNN means to me. I have told him enough times. If he sees how connected I am to the company and still wants to move on, that speaks volumes.
Also, he needs to want it enough to stick it out. I can’t be cast in the role of the person who has to shake sense into him every time something goes wrong.
Though this decision may have very serious consequences for me, for better or worse, he is Brady’s father. We’re going to have to find a new normal. How we’re going to do that is beyond me at the moment, but it’s what we need to do.
My heart is broken, but the thing that hurts most is that I’m going to break my son’s heart. He’s so excited that his father and I are together. Now, we have to break it to him that we aren’t anymore. I don’t even know if he’s going to be able to comprehend what that means. If he does, he’ll definitely not be happy about it.
I’ve been putting off the conversation because I don’t know if it would be right to go ahead and tell him without Adam, or if we need to sit down and talk it through before we let Brady know.
Either way, will have to decide what to do sooner rather than later, because ever since Adam blew up at me and we stopped speaking, he hasn’t seen Brady either. Brady may be young, but he isn’t an idiot. He knows something is up, and I can only deflect his questions for so long.
I haven’t told my family what’s been going on, for the same reason I was reluctant to tell Brady. It was easier to keep it from them seeing as we don’t live in the same state.
Lucas is the only one who knows everything that has happened. I didn’t tell him about the fight and break up, but Adam did. I’m not sure exactly what Adam told him, but he knows.
Since he’s been back in California for a while, I’ve been speaking to him on the phone quite a lot, and he’s been trying to get us to mend fences. However, he has been unsuccessful.
The last time we spoke, he decided I sounded too sad. So he’s flown back into town to check up on me and Brady.
I really am lucky to have a brother who will drop everything and fly across the country to sit with me while I nurse my broken heart.
He offered to come to my apartment, but I worried that Brady would overhear our conversation and get upset. It seems these days nothing happens in my apartment without him knowing, whether he’s in the room or not.
So I meet Lucas at his hotel. It’s still the Hilton, but this time he couldn’t get the penthouse suite. So he’s in a normal room. It’s still amazing, but not as glamorous and large.
“Look at you slumming it,” I say, as I walk into the room.
“I know,” he huffs.
My comment was sarcastic, but I’m not so sure about Lucas’. It’s interesting how bougie he’s gotten ever since he started making money.
He pulls me into a hug and walks me over to the little seating area off to the side.
“How are you feeling?” he asks.
“I’m fine.”
“No, really.”
I smile. “Really, I’m fine.”
“I find that hard to believe.”
“I mean, it sucks that we broke up, and it hurts a lot, but it’s nothing I can’t handle.”
