I woke up to the sound of the click of the door. It was so quiet I probably wouldn’t have normally noticed it, but I wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place. I meant to let myself out once the fun was over, but I’d collapsed in his big bed and passed the fuck out.
I quickly sat up and looked toward the floor-to-ceiling window that led to the patio. The ceilings were twenty feet high, and the enormous drape of the curtains blocked out most of the sunlight. Some of it peeked through in the center.
“Shit.” I shouldn’t have slept over. Now we had to do the awkward goodbye thing. I had to do the walk of shame, leaving the hotel in the morning in a skintight black dress and heels. Everyone in the lobby would know I was stuffed like a cream-filled donut. If there was anything left inside me, I’d probably find it with my fingers and smear it over my clit back in my room and try to relive the best sex I’d ever had.
I got out of bed and began the scavenger hunt for my dress, panties, and heels.
He emerged from the entryway, in nothing but workout shorts and running shoes. He must have stripped off his shirt somewhere along the way.
I was just about to pick up my heel from the floor when I nearly toppled over at the sight of him. All his muscles were plump from his workout, the cords tight like strings on a guitar. He had a slight sheen of sweat, the same kind he’d worn when we’d fucked last night ... over and over.
God, I’d forgotten how hot he was. “Um ... morning.”
He pulled his earbuds out of his ears and pocketed them. “Morning.” His hard stare suddenly lightened when he smiled, a beautiful, breathtaking smile that made me want to jump right back into bed. “How’d you sleep?”
“Uh ...” I finally picked up the heel, then searched for the other, which had been flung across the room next to the couch. I was buck naked, moving around his expensive suite, trying to find all my things that had been destroyed in the tornado that crashed through here last night. I finally found my little black thong near one corner of the table. “Yeah.” Quickly, I pulled it on to give myself some kind of dignity.
With that same handsome smile, he watched me move to the dining table and find the rumpled black dress on the floor. “Yeah?”
“Uh-huh.” I tugged it on, embarrassed that I’d overstayed my welcome. My eyes glanced to the alarm clock on his black nightstand and saw that it was almost eleven. “Oh shit.” I’d really slept it up.
“Have somewhere to be?”
I moved back to the couch and started to get my heels on. “I just need to find my phone and my purse, and I’ll be on my way.” The last pieces of this fucked-up scavenger hunt.
“Hungry?” He remained in front of the large flat-screen TV on the wall over the ornate dresser. He pulled out his phone to check something before he set it on the surface next to the little decorative knickknacks.
“Sorry?” I asked.
“Stay for breakfast.”
“Oh ... um ...” I didn’t expect that offer. Didn’t expect him to be polite or actually try not to be an asshole. This man could run meover with a car and I’d be the one apologizing for getting in his way. “It’s okay.”
“I’m not asking you.” The smile was gone, and the intense man that I’d watched across the bar had returned. “Gonna shower. Order me an egg-white omelet and some coffee.” He headed down the hallway to the bathroom and disappeared.
After he showered, he returned to the main room in nothing but gray sweatpants that hung low on his hips.
Only a man like him could make sweatpants look better than an Armani suit.
His hair was still slightly damp, like he’d done a quick towel dry. I’d opened the curtains, so the morning light struck his beautiful tanned skin and dark ink. He was even tighter first thing in the morning, his core strong and firm, distinct grooves between all the different planes of his stomach.
Room service had just set up the meal on the outdoor patio under the shade of the umbrella. It was a large terrace, with several different seating areas, including a few dining tables and a private plunge pool. The view of the Ionian Sea was breathtaking.
I was still on the couch, awkward and out of place in this sphere of luxury.
He looked me over before he opened the back door to the patio, the sunshine potent without a cloud in the sky. “Come on.”
“Look, we don’t need to do the whole charade,” I said as I got to my feet, wobbling slightly because I wasn’t prepared for the height of the heels. “I should have left last night, but I was knocked out cold—”
“If I wanted you to leave, I would tell you.” He didn’t raise his voice, but he somehow infused his words with unquestionable strength, the kind I was way too scared to challenge. Something about the look in his eyes and the way he held himself told me he was being sincere.“Come on.” He nodded toward the patio and stepped outside, barefoot, and pulled out my chair before he sat in his own.
I hesitated before I followed him, being hit with the sea air the second I left the suite and moved to the chair. When I tried to scoot my chair closer to the table, the legs got caught in the grooves between the stones, and it sounded like nails on a chalkboard.
He reached over, grabbed the bottom of the chair, and effortlessly pulled me to the table like the chair and I weighed nothing and the friction of the stone was practically smooth ice. He grabbed the steel pot of coffee and filled my cup before he filled his.
I was frozen to the spot, unable to believe I was sitting beside this gorgeous man in the light of day with this glorious view of the sea. He was even more handsome in daylight. His jawline was clean because he must have shaved after he took a shower. Maybe I should have let him go down on me last night so I could have experienced the coarseness of his beard between my soft thighs.
My eyes immediately shifted away when the heat surged through me.
