Cassius nodded, his fingers closing over the key. They didn’t speak as they made it to the stairs, climbing up the rickety worn steps until they got to their room. Cassius pushed inside, stepping aside for Thalia to squeeze in.

At least the room had two beds. Albeit tiny, worn beds that would barely fit one, let alone two.

Thalia’s scowl matched the innkeeper’s downstairs as she pushed back her hood.

Cassius caught her stare. “At least we have a roof over our heads.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

Cassius gave her a knowing look. Thalia forced herself to shrug, taking off her cloak. She folded it over the end of one of the beds. A small fireplace sat against the wall, which would probably only aid in smoking them out, and a washstand with a rickety wooden chair in the corner completed the space.

The door behind her creaked open and they both whirled, blades drawn. But it was just Keegan.

He shoved back his hood, face wet. He took a look around the room. “Cozy.”

Thalia snorted, turning back to the two beds. There was no way the two Vampyrs could share. Not a chance.

“I’ll take the chair,” Cassius said, moving toward it.

“It’s fine,” Thalia blurted out. At his confused look, she gestured to the bed with her cloak. “It’s not like we haven’t shared a bed for days now.”Or in the past.

Cassius stared at her, his jaw flickering. But Keegan cut in, breaking through the tension. “Well, I’m not going to complain if I get my own bed.”

He moved between them, shucking off his cloak and boots, and took off the outer portion of his clothing to dry. He wore the same kind of linen pants that Cassius wore to bed. Granted, they’d all been pulled from their sleep, so it was no wonder he still had them on. He promptly pulled back the covers and went straight to sleep.

Thalia stared at him in shock.

“He does that,” Cassius got out.

“Weird.”

“I know.”

The corners of her lips twitched.

“The bathroom should be up here somewhere,” Cassius continued. “You can go freshen up. Do you want anything to eat?”

Thalia shook her head. “No.”

Cassius nodded, and Thalia left only to see to her needs in the gross common bathing room before scampering back.

Cassius excused himself to do the same thing, leaving her alone with sleeping Keegan, who snored softly.

If he kept it up, she’d have to hit him with a pillow.

Thalia peeled off her boots, placing them near the fire, then she tugged off her shirt and pants. Part of her was glad she’d kept on her nightdress, only so the rest of her clothes could dry.

But another part screamed with embarrassment, especially at the thought of Keegan rolling over and seeing her. Thalia inched to the hearth, adding a few logs to try to start a fire. Even though it was the height of summer, the rain had added a bit of cold, which she was more than a little aware of given her lack of clothing. It took a few tries to get the fire started, but eventually the logs cracked, the sparks catching.

The door creaked open, and she stood hastily, wiping her hands off on her nightdress.

Thalia’s embarrassment only grew as Cassius froze, looking her over. His shirt was off, and the cut on his arm was clean.

Thalia crossed her arms over her chest. “It’s the only thing I had on under my clothes.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

Cassius moved to the chair, setting down his shirt. The muscles in his back rippled as he tugged off his boots, setting them near the fire along with his pants. It seemed he’d kept his linen ones on. Which was fine by her. She didn’t think she could handle his nudity, dire situation or not.
