Is there a way to go on?
Instead of staying in this place alone?

now
I stand alone at the top of the jump.
There is no reason to take off my T-shirt so it will be dry, for later.
No reason for me to take off my running shoes so they don’t weigh me down.
No reason for me to do anything
but jump.
And how I jump decides where I will fall
into the water
or onto the rocks.
It’s hard to hear someone fall if they don’t scream.
But you hear when they hit what’s below.

now
It’s true what they say about falling.
Time does slow down.
Not much
but enough
to think about
who and what you love.
You don’t have time to call them all out loud, but
that doesn’t matter.
They are already engraved upon your heart.

now
I hit at the edge of the water. It swallows me cold, whole and deep.
There is still another
choice to make.
