I take a deep breath, calming myself. Fuck, I’m never this out of control during sex, even with partners who can take everything I have to give.
I push into him, slowly, tentatively. I keep the pace even, my eyes squeezed shut.
After a dozen thrusts, I feel a tingling in my spine. I come inside Oliver, my grunts swallowed by his sweet mouth.
I turn us over, laying him down on the bed, and pull myself out before I get hard again.
I don’t want to scare Oliver with my werewolf refractory period. I dispose of the condom and bring a washcloth from the bathroom to clean us up.
Oliver turns and faces me. I pull him towards me until we're almost sharing the same air. I sweep his hair back from his face.
I look into his big doe eyes. “What happened today, baby?” I’m desperate to know what had him so scared. Someone has to pay for that. I just need him to point me in a direction.
His eyes widen. Hestarts wiggling against me. Fuck that’s distracting.
Focus, Matt!
I don’t let him move away. “It was... I went…” he looks everywhere but me. He takes a loud breath. “I'm okay. It was nothing. Just thought I saw something.”
It was definitely not nothing, and the way he’s being cagey is setting off all my alarms. “What did you see?” I ask, remembering that I’m responsible for keeping him away from my world. I'm doing a horrible job at it.
I’ve been keeping all my senses on him for the last three days. I even got Nick to do a walk around the hallway last night while I was working. I’ve been trying to keep him distracted, safe, but I must have failed somewhere.
I tighten my hold. I’m not letting anything hurt him.
“Can we just let it go? Please?” He puts on the face I have no defense against.
I really, really don’t want to let it go. Maybe I can get him to talk tomorrow morning when he’s had a night to cool off and isn’t feeling so vulnerable?
“And I’ve decided I’m done looking for Dalton or trying to understand what I saw. I’m okay with not knowing now,” he says. His eyes are intense.
I nod. What the fuck did he see now that made him decide that? God, what was up with the werewolves of this city and Oliver?
Then something else hits me. If he’s not poking his nose into werewolf business anymore, I don’t have a reason to be around him.
No, there’s the Christmas party. Can’t cancel that. It would be so rude!
I kiss his forehead, my lips lingering against his warm skin, and pull him to me until his head is resting on my chest. I pull the comforter over us.
He’s already snoring softly within minutes. I run my hand slowly over his soft hair, capturing this very second to remember it for as long as I live.
Our bodies touching.
His slow, even breath.
His smell, sunshine, rose, and our pleasure.
His body slotting against mine like he was made for me.
My dick is hard again, but I don’t want to do anything about it. I kiss his hair and lie there, enjoying the few moments I have left with him.
My phone vibrates on the nightstand with a text. I glance at it absentmindedly. It’s from Nick. The guy must have some alarm warning him every time I screw up.
But his words have me almost jerking upright.
Fire at Moonroot Apothecary. No one inside. M going thr now. U comin?
