I look around the room and my gaze lands on Nathan. “Who are you?” I ask. Mene called him uncle, but I don’t know who she is to figure that out.

Nathan grins. The soft knock against my mind makes me narrow my eyes on him. He whispers the answer, making my mouth fall open.

“What?” Zee asks, glancing between me and Nathan.

I shake my head, understanding why he would keep that hidden, but the answer raises insane questions about our path to date. If there was anyone who could influence the outcome, Nathan would be the one.

“Why?”I whisper in my mind, thinking back on the forks in the road he could have influenced.

“Some things must come to pass for us to move forward. Your life is yours to choose. You laid down your sword for love, Natia, and with it you taught an ancient what true love felt like. You dove into the pain, surrendered your walls and bared your scars for the world. You wear your love like armor, and we will follow you into the storm because you are without a doubt the strongest person I have ever known.”

“I died.”

“And you were reborn into the queen he needs, the one we all need. Stop thinking human and start thinking like a deity.”

I examine the mark on my wrist.“We will beat it,”Nathan states.

“Now what?” I ask.

“Now we go for a swim,” Archan states. “And pray Poseidon is in a favorable mood.”

Chapter Twenty Three

Natia

If Earth is my heart, then water is my soul.

Mortality is the oldest human obsession; it’s why innovation in medicine is the fastest moving research field. Yet, as far as they know, there is no way to cheat death. Atheism is at a worldwide all-time high, with many of us putting our faith in false leaders. Celebrities have more influence than the divine, and the religion that is delivered to us via big news corporations is warped, twisted to fit the needs of those that seek to terrorize the world.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Lucifer asks from his chair by the fire. I plonk my ass down on his bed with a sigh and finger the tie of the red bikini.

“I’m about to lose my immortality and I’m sitting here in a red bikini waiting for the man I love to take me deep sea diving.”

“We will reverse the curse,” Lucifer states.

I twist the fabric around my index finger. “What if—”

Archan barges into the room. He pauses as he takes me in. I rake my gaze up his bare legs and tilt my head as I study his naked torso. Damn, this man is like a tall glass of water in a parched desert.

His lips tilt up as if he can read my thoughts. “What if what?” Lucifer says.

I snap my gaze to him. “What if I turn human whilst I’m under the sea? I need to breathe, right?”

Lucifer frowns, his gaze a little too perspective as he senses my hesitation to say what I really mean. Archan steps between us and tugs me up to meet him. He wraps a hand around the back of my neck and pulls me close. “Nathan is confident that won’t happen. You have two days left.” I nod and cast my gaze down.

Lucifer stands. “I’ll be in the main club,” he states, side eyeing me and swapping to telepathy.“And you can tell me the rest of that sentence soon.”

Archan grips my chin and forces me to face him. “Is that all?” he asks as the door clicks closed.

His gaze burrows deep into my soul. “No, but that’s all that’s important right now. Let’s get the trident so we can continue our mission through Hell and end this war.”

Archan’s eyes soften. “Whatever burdens you, we can face together, Natia.”

My lips tighten as he drops a kiss on them. I close my eyes, avoiding his probing stare. Seduction isn’t going to work to soothe my soul this time.

“Do you remember how I said you kiss me?” he whispers in my ear.
