Leon stared at the ex-hitman as he spoke of faith and the fact that his family had backup...As in Bane and his family. From what Leon knew, the Jessins never lose.He almost smiled as he pictured the female Jessins as well.A bad guy would never stand a chance with those girls. He paused as he realized how odd it really was to get a pep talk from Bane Jessin. But Leon actually felt his strength returning. He shelved the fear he had been dealing with and he knew right then and there that he had to believe in his son, he had to believe Calderone would return.Bane was correct. He had just defended his house against the first round.Round two would be coming up and by God, he wouldn’t fail.
Bane watched him in the incurring silence and finally gave him a slow nod.
Leon read the approval and resolve in Bane’s eyes as he sat across from him.He understood what Bane meant. He couldn’t give up, he couldn’t lose his nerve, not now, not ever.Leon nodded back.
Both men raised their glasses in a silent toast.Taking a drink, they then sat in a comfortable silence.Maybe they had different values but both were hard men, they survived on more than just their wits.Family first, then deal with the wretched monsters to keep everyone safe.Do that the hard way or the easy way...whatever it took.Keep faith in yourself and the people closest to you.
The former assassin and mob boss. They weren’t so different and in some ways they were very much alike.
Chapter Five
Bane had left.
Leon still sat in his office and the same glass sat in front of him on the desk.He sat and thought about what had been discussed tonight.Could Paulo still be working with his two older sons?He shook his head. That wouldn’t surprise him at all.But twelve years can also change a man.Paulo was twelve years older now and Manuel was cruel even back then, could he have kicked his father out of the cartel by now?Leon brow raised as he thought yeah, he could do that. But the question was had hedonethat? Then he thought about the plan Fredo and Manuel had probably made and that’s what concerned him.
He couldn’t even imagine. But now he had to think about how to stop them.He knew they were coming and there would be a showdown. He had very little time to get ready for it but Leon felt he was in the stronger position now.
He walked over to the window and was looking at his front lawn and in the distance he could see the front gate.In the dim lighting he could see a car across the street from the gate and it was just there. He could see a figure behind the wheel but in the darkness, he couldn’t see who it might be.
Leon stepped away from the window as he didn’t want to be seen but he stood there in the shadows, watching. He wasn’t sure who was watching his home but he didn’t like it.He went over to the lamp on his desk and switched it off.The whole room went dark as he made his way back to the window but no one from the car moved at all.
Just then, a knock sounded on his door.
Leon made his way over and opened it.
Storm stood there and reported, “My street team just let me know someone is watching the house.”
Leon nodded.“I just saw that.I don’t know who is out there but I don’t like it.”
Storm growled.“Me either, do you mind if I take a look?”
Leon stared at him.“Take a look?”
Storm smiled.“Yeah me and my buddies will go take a looksee and can find out who is this stupid.”He tipped his invisible hat to Leon and said, “Don’t worry we know what we’re doing.”
Leon nodded his head at him.“Just let security know you are leaving, otherwise they will try to stop you.And let me know what you find.”
