Bane growled and tried to set up the kill shot but Trego scrambled behind the car for cover
Disgusted, Bane turned his scope to take down a few more men on the other side of the fence.Something caught the corner of his eye and he turned his head.
Trego was crawling up the steps leading inside the van.
Bane growled.
The van’s doors closed and he got into the driver’s seat. The engine turned over and Trego pulled out, turning around in the middle of the street. He had escaped before the shooting even stopped.
Finally, Bane swung his rifle back over.
Jaun was still in the same position as he seemed too afraid to move.
“All the king’s men,” Bane muttered, then he took the kill shot.
Jaun dropped instantly as he lay in his own puddle of blood.
Just like two minutes later, the shooting stopped altogether.
Bane climbed down from his position in the tree and calmly walked over to the front gate.
His brothers, sister and his cousin joined him there and they looked between the bars of the gate to the chaos on the other side.
Chaos took over on the other side of the fence between them.Men were cut down and laid all over the place.Only a few were still alive at this point. They could all hear the groans and some shouting.
Bane’s second sense kept screaming at him not to think this was over yet.He looked over at his twin, Cane.
Cane kept shaking his head, searching for something else as well.“This was just the first pass. They didn’t come all this way without a second wave somewhere. There is too much at stake.”
Bane nodded.“But the Gondo family are all dead.”
Just then, the front door opened as Leon, Storm and Lucinda stepped out. They walked the entire length of the driveway and finally joined them at the front gate.
Lucinda took in the sight of all the bodies then she asked, “Where are the rest of them?”
“The rest of them?”Leon asked.“Who is left?”
She turned to him and said, “Paulo had twice the number of men that are here. His brothers Carlos and Pinta were driving three more buses.Where are they?”
Leon snapped his gaze over to her and said, “I was unaware Paulo had any brothers. This is news to me.”
Lucinda shrugged.“They kept that information from the public.Paulo was the face behind the cartel but si, he’s always had two brothers. They made the deal behind the scenes.I think they stayed out of the light for a reason and now the reason is here.”
Bane snapped his head up to stare at her. Then he looked over at Leon.“This isn’t over yet.I had a bad feeling it wasn’t.”
Cane nodded.“And we don’t know where the rest will arrive. That makes this dangerous.”
Lucinda smiled slightly. She pulled out her phone and checked an app on her screen. Then she looked at Leon and showed him.“They’re already here, waiting a few blocks away.”
Leon looked at the screen and then at her.“What is this?”
She shrugged.“I tagged one of Paulo’s brother’s vehicles. He never knew it but I did. Then I got out of town before they did.I wanted to be here before they got here.”Shaking her head she admitted, “I didn’t know if it would work or not but I guess it did.”
Turning, Leon spoke to the camera, as he knew John was there, “We have enough time to clean this up,” Leon stated.“Just make sure we have someone covering anyone that has to go outside the gate.Don’t be caught by surprise.Get everyone on this.Get it done and get back inside before Paulo’s brothers arrive.Don’t take any chances.”
Bane looked over at Lucinda and asked, “What kind of men are Paulo’s brothers?”
Lucinda shook her head.“The kind of apple that doesn’t fall far from that tree, senor.Rotten and smelly. All three of them grew up under their father. All three are spoiled rotten.Carlos had two sons as well, and Pinto has three. But I think you need to worry about Pinto’s boys more than Carlos’s boys.”
