“Take that back!” I yell at him and throw a pillow on him as he laughs so hard it’s making my stomach flop. He’s so beautiful when he laughs. He looks almost nineteen again.
We calm down and continue the staring contest.
“If you keep looking at me like that, I might make love to you right on the plate with scrambled eggs.” He smiles again.
“Makeloveto me, huh?” I raise my eyebrows and give him a funny look.
He clicks his tongue and keeps staring.
“How the hell did someone this infuriating manage to own me to the bone?” he says and his smirk softens into something almost tender.
“Do I? Own you completely?” I fight a wide grin.
“Yeah. Completely. Permanently. Tragically.”
He lifts his hand and takes my chin, leaning in to kiss me when the door flies open and Adrien walks in, heading to our bed without hesitation. Kasien closes his eyes in frustration but doesn’t say anything.
Adrien comes to the other side of the bed and sits right next to Kasien, taking some food and smiling at us.
“I’m sorry to ruin this, but that idiotic ball is in two hours, it’s already six p.m. Let’s go over the plan.”
Kasien’s expression darkens as he starts thinking about tonight and my chest fills with anxiety, the hunger gone as my stomach tightens. The guys look at each other for a while, having their usual telepathic conversation before they turn to me and Kasien starts.
“First of all, you need to look like you’ve been interrogated and scared to death.”
“I am fucking scared to death,” I explain with my eyes wide open as Adrien adds,
“You need to look like you’ve been imprisoned by the infamousMyortvetshimself, Troubles,” he explains and Kasien rolls his eyes and grips the bridge of his nose.
Adrien’s eyes slide down to my neck and he continues, “I see Kas has already started with that, but that’s not enough. Can you do some damage with makeup?”
I stare at him with confusion written all around my face.
“Handcuff marks on your wrists will do,” Kasien explains and looks at me apologetically.
Then it hits me. That’s why he made me do the session with Theresa—so I look like I’ve been kept and handled.
“Oh… okay,” I exhale and Kasien continues to explain the evening.
“Lucien is probably going to play with you, but that’s all, he just likes to do that. I’ll talk to him, tell him I’m getting some information—that I need you for a couple more days and then I’ll kill you.” He stares at me, his expression softening as he continues. “By that time, we’ll be gone. All of us.”
I just nod, my chest filling with anxiety, eating up my thoughts.
“What do you mean he’s going to play with me?”
“Just verbally, there will be too many people and we won’t let anything happen to you,” Adrien assures me.
“Why can’t we just leave now?”
“Faking death takes time, Kiara. If we don’t do it properly, he will find you and he’ll go after my sister,” Kasien explains and Adrien’s jaw tightens.
Natalya.
“He knows where Natalya is?”
“Probably not, she’s safe and we have someone keeping an eye on her, but Deveraux promised he won’t look for her if we behave,” Kasien explains and my heart sinks even lower.
“Oh my God. I’m putting Natalya in danger,” I whisper and shoot up from the bed.
