A flash of pink hair caught my eye.Ruby—who had been with Astrid a couple of hours ago—flirted with some guy from another school, a cup of beer in her hand.Mid-conversation, her gaze met mine, and she smirked.
Once she waved him off, she strolled over to us.“What’s up, Calix?”
“Ruby,” I said with a nod, trying to keep my cool.
If Ruby was here, then Astrid had to be here too, right? And if Astrid was alone somewhere in the crowd, what if she was doing the exact same thing that she had done the last time we met her at a party?
“Astrid should be here soon,” she said to me.“AstridandFrasier actually.”
I clenched my jaw.“Cool.”
“You know,” Ruby hummed, “they’re really into each other.”
“Sure.”
“You think I’m lying?”she asked.“Frasier picked her up for dinner before this.”
“Dinner?”I repeated, gaze snapping to her.“Where’d they go?”
Ruby’s smirk widened.“Wouldn’t you like to know?”
“Ruby,” I snarled, “I’m not in the mood.”
She peered down at her phone.“They should be done by now, but you know how horny they both are.Probably decided to sneak off somewhere, like they did this afternoon, and fuck like?—”
“I don’t care,” I snapped, hands balling into fists.
“Sure you don’t,” Ruby hummed, looking into the crowd and sipping on her beer.“I bet you don’t care that she told me that Frasier is better than you too, huh?”
She said what?!
“Better than me at what?”I said through my teeth, facing her now, seething.
Ruby peered over at me innocently.“You know …”
“You’re fucking lying,” I said, pulling my gaze away.“Stop it.”
“You know what I think?I think you should make her jealous tonight,” Ruby said.“Find yourself a pretty girl to hang on you during the race and afterward.Astrid won’t be able to handle seeing you with someone else.”
“Get the fuck out of here.”
Ruby chuckled and walked away, tipping her plastic cup at me.“See ya.”
A low growl left my mouth as she disappeared into the crowd.I turned back to Rush, who stepped out of his car and shut the door behind himself.
He peered over my shoulder, his eyes shifting from neutral to hard.“What the fuck is she doing here?”
“Ruby? She came over to piss me?—”
“Who the hell is Ruby? Why is Astrid here with Frasier?”
I followed his gaze and spotted Frasier with his face buried into the crook of Astrid’s neck, his arm around her waist, guiding her forward. Her nose was scrunched up, and a big, wide grin decorated her face.
The better question was,What is she doing? No, whatthe fuckis she doing?!
With anger rushing through me, I stormed in her direction—knowing that she saw me—and right in front of her, I grabbed a girl with long brown hair and a flirty smile. She had been giving me looks since I’d arrived, and maybe … Ruby was right.
Maybe I should make her jealous.
