Christopher raced toward the closing doors.
I stuck my arm into the gap to prevent the stainless-steel doors from closing and he slid in next to me.
“Thanks, Lizzie,” he said, flashing the dimple in his cheek.
My heart still fluttered when he called me by that name.
“Oh Christopher,” I said, batting my eyelashes at him as I put a hand on his solid chest. “I find your magnetic charm irresistible.”
He grinned and awarded me with a large English Breakfast tea, which he would have sweetened to perfection. I threw my arms around his neck and we kissed until the elevator stopped on the fourth floor to let him out. My lips tingled, and I wished we were returning home, not back to work after lunch.
“Thanks for the tea,” I said as he disembarked.
“Can I swing by and get you for dinner around six-thirty?”
I smiled. “Of course, I’ll set a reminder. I don’t want to be late.”
He twirled around to blow me a kiss.
“See you after work, Dr. Winters,” he said with a wink.
“Back at you, Dr. Winters.” My face stretched into a familiar smile.
While change can be slow, sometimes it happens in a moment. An instant when your life is upended in a flash. In this case, the moment was as quick as the arm thrust into the elevator door. Time for infinite possibility. Time for anything to happen, even time travel and finding your true love, like I found mine, and with it, my voice.
