Standing, she drags her tongue around her mouth.

‘Delicious,’ she says, casually tossing her braid over her shoulder, like she didn’t just give me one of the best earth-shattering orgasms I’ve ever experienced.

I can’t quite manage to string a sentence together yet, and instead, try to catch my breath. She faces me, cheeks flushed, a pretty smile on her lips.

‘What?’she asks.

‘You’re amazing.’She ducks her chin and I pull her close to me, placing a finger under her chin and forcing her gaze to meet mine.‘I mean it.Not because of what you just did – although thatwasamazing – I mean just who you are.I feel so close to you.I trust you and clearly you trust me.Getting on the back of my bike with me probably seems like nothing to you, but it means so much to me.I feel things for you that I’ve never felt before and I know this was all just meant to be an agreement, or whatever, but I have real feelings for you, and I hope you have them for me, too.’

Pressing her lips together, she leans close to me, our foreheads touching.

‘I feel the same for you, Zayden.’

‘Good,’ I whisper, our breaths mingling as I drag her towards me.‘Because I can’t get enough of you.’

‘As if!’I shout, throwing my hands up.‘Forward pass!’

The ref glances my way, a displeased frown etched across his face. It’s not unlike me to get riled up and vocal during a game, but usually I try to swallow down my anger.Well, getting riled up in a gameiscommon for me, but I’m usually more careful inhow I approach things, especially when it comes to my behaviour towards the ref. This time, it’s getting the better of me.The ref is making some ridiculous calls to the point where I’m wondering if he’s corrupt.

‘Not another word from you,’ the ref snaps, jabbing a finger in my direction.

A retort is hot on my lips but Mason pushes me, snapping my attention to him.He meets my eyes, giving methe look.Blowing out a breath, I nod, stepping away from him and walking back up the field to join the rest of the team.

I hate the team we’re playing. The Marlins. They play dirty and always try to take out our players.Mason and I are usually their prime targets.Their entire strategy seems to be about dividing us.It’s smart, but annoying all the same.

Anthony Douglas, a slimy player that has unfortunately risen through the ranks lately, sprints for me the moment the ball is in my hands.Dropping my shoulder, I turn on my feet, running past him with a speed I reserve for special occasions.

I pass it off to Mason and he takes off, but I stay with him, running so hard my lungs burn.Just as he’s about to get tackled, he fakes a left before pelting the ball in my direction.I leap to get it and land smoothly, sliding across the tryline.

Cheers erupt in the grandstands surrounding us and I stand, receiving a few back claps from my team.My eyes search the stands and settle on those blue orbs I’d see from a mile away.Nora’s beaming smile has me doing one in return.

‘Sloppy seconds?Didn’t know that was your type.’

Turning, I stare in confusion at Anthony. He’s not even meant to be on this side of the field right now, so obviously he has something he’s trying to play here.

‘As usual, I don’t know or give a fuck what you’re on about,’ I bark back at him in a dismissive tone.

‘That chick in the stands,’ he spits.‘She and my brother have … a history.’

I hate that he gets my attention.I glower at him.‘I don’t think you know what you’re talking about.’

‘Oh but I do,’ he continues, a satisfied smirk inching across his mouth.‘They went out for a drink and he bent her over in the bathroom afterwards.Probably still has bruises on her knees from when she—’

My hands fly out before me and I shove into him so hard he stumbles back, the wind being knocked out of him.He chokes on a gasp and then laughs, enjoying that he’s found my weakness.

‘If your brother is the man I saved her from, then you better tell him if I ever see him again, I’m going to knock his fucking teeth out.’

‘Boys!’the ref snarls, stalking over to us.Thankfully, I think he missed me shoving Anthony, but he’s noticed something going down.‘We got a problem here?’

‘Nope!’Mason quickly intervenes, stepping between us and nudging me backwards, increasing the distance between Anthony and me, even as he edges towards me, a feral look in his eyes.‘All good here, ref.’

‘Mason’s not always going to be around, Zayden,’ Anthony drawls, and I clench my fists so hard, my nails bite into my palms.

‘Oi!’Mason snaps, shaking me.‘Snap out of it.If you want to beat him, play hard.Don’t sink down to his level. You’re on thin ice enough as it is.’

I press my hands tighter as I force myself to walk away. The next set starts and I do my best to stay focused, but my mind keeps repeating his words. Is he spreading those rumours about her?I’m going tokillhim.

We make it through unscathed, then it’s their turn to defend us.Anthony speeds right for me and we crash together in asickeningthump.I fall hard onto my shoulder and release a sharp breath as pain skitters up my shoulder and down my arm.
