While Andrew has been focused on his stuff, I've been finishing up repairs on the cabin we used during his early time here.I hadn't intended it to be our home, but now I'm attached to the idea.As big as the main Pack house is, with our growing family, it's getting crowded.
Once the electricity is run, I will pull my mate aside and make him take a break so I can show him our newly updated home. He's been crashing in my old room in the main house when he actually decides to sleep. Not that he needs much.
My wolf is pleased our mate is physically close to us, but is displeased with the lack of emotional investment. If I don't start pressing Andrew to take time off, my wolf may start getting possessive.Nobody needs that chaos. The reveal of our new den will be just the distraction we need.
Standing in the doorway of the room Andrew has taken over in the Pack house, I watch him as he types away on the laptop while Lorne sits next to him wrapping up a conversation with his brother.I don't mean to eavesdrop on Pierce's end of the conversation, but shifter hearing and all that.
"I'll send over the information Andrew requested shortly. On a personal note, there have been some rumors going around you should know about."
"Rumors are always going around. Most of them are pure crap, Pierce," Lorne replies.
"Yeah, but I don't want to take a chance on this one.I've heard there are some Hunter families that aren't happy we've changed how we operate.Just… keep your eyes open, okay."
"There's always a risk when you shake things up.Thanks for keeping me informed."
"Stop lurking," Andrew says, pulling my attention from Lorne's call."I thought vampires were the mysterious lurker type, not wolves."
"Wolves can lurk," I say, stepping into the room."Am I not allowed to stare at my mate because he's cute when he's all focused on nerdy shit?"
Andrew stops typing and turns to look at me."Cute?Really? What are we, twelve?"
"Pardon me.I meant hot.Sizzling hot."
"That's better," Andrew says, smiling.
"You hungry?It's around that time."
"Yeah.I should eat now so I don't run the risk of putting it off too long."
"I'll step out.Call me when you're ready and we can pick up where we left off with listing Hunter weapons," Lorne says, heading for the door.
When we're alone, I offer Andrew my wrist so he can drink.I want so much to push this farther and encourage some pain, but we're in the main house with too many ears around.I can hardly wait until we have our own place. It's so close to being ready.
My mate pulls back, tiny bite marks already healing.
"I know you wanted it to be a surprise, but thank you. When will the electricity be done?"
Damn it.I've been so careful about keeping those thoughts pushed down. But Andrew is getting stronger. He's able to probe deeper.
"It'll be another week or so.Once the electric is in, I'll have new appliances delivered."
"Thank you for giving me a home."Andrew stands to put his arms around me."Thank you for making me feel wanted."
The kiss he gives me is tender and sweet. Not what I usually crave, but I could get used to it.
Chapter Twenty
Andrew
Istareaftermymate as he walks out to go spend time with his brothers. He needs my attention, way more than I've been giving him.If there's one plus to this whole vampire thing, it's that I don't need to sleep all that often. And even then, I don't know that I need it so much as it's habit. All the time I'm not sleeping is extra time I have to spend on my research and work on the database. It's hard not to get hyper-focused when I have this much time in front of me.But, I need to remember my mate deserves my attention, too. He's been wonderfully thoughtful, fixing up the cabin to give me a nice home.I wasn't sure I'd ever feel like I had a home again after my parents disowned me.Richard took me in, but there was still always a sense, on my part, that I was intruding.Wyatt is giving me a wonderful gift.
"I passed Wyatt in the hall.He said you're ready to continue," Lorne says, from the doorway.
"Yep.Fed and ready to go."
Lorne and I go through the list of Hunter weapons, their specs, uses, etc., for the next few hours before my curiosity gets the better of me.
"How many Hunter families are there?"
