"My cousin is here.We can continue this discussion in the car. It's time to go.Jericho, our Pack Alpha, will want to see both of you right away."
"How long will we be gone?"Richard asks.
"Probably best you pack up everything you brought with you. There's no way to know what Jericho's decision will be.He may want you to stay until the High Priestess can administer the Speak-No-More spell."
"How much trouble am I in?"Andrew asks after Richard goes to pack.
"Jericho is usually fair. He'll likely give some leeway considering you're new to all this. That being said, this can't happen again."
"It won't," he replies, rising from the couch."Let's go see what we can find to cover me so I don't fry in the car on the way home."
Chapter Sixteen
Andrew
Thereisn'tanythinginthe cabin Wyatt feels good enough to shield me from the mid-day sun, so we wait until early evening before starting back to the Pack land.
Covered in several blankets, one pulled up over my head like a hood, I sit in the middle of the backseat while Wyatt drives, Jagger beside him in the passenger seat.Richard sits beside me staring out the window.Silence settles over all of us as we head down the road, which is fine with me.I'm all talked out.
The world melts, at first I think it's the motion of the car affecting me, but then the scene changes.
"Dad, did you know, in some stories it says if you eat food in the other realms, you will get stuck there?"a young Arthur asks Richard.
"Is that so, son?"
Present reality comes back into focus and I find myself leaning on Richard's shoulder.
"It happened again?"Richard inquires, helping me upright.
"What happened again?"Wyatt asks, glancing at me in the rearview mirror.
When it happened the first time, I had my suspicions, but now I'm almost positive."I think my powers are manifesting. When I drink from someone, I see… memories. Not all of them. It's more like snapshots in time.Clips."
Wyatt is quiet a few moments, but I can feel his anxiety through our bond.
"What did you see from mine?"he finally asks.
"Let's talk about it later," I reply, knowing he's not going to want the abuse he suffered out in the open.I'm sure his brothers know some of it, but from what I saw, he shielded them from a lot.
"What did you see this time?"Richard asks, taking the focus off Wyatt.
"A conversation between you and Arthur when he was young. He was talking about other realms. This memory happened much quicker after drinking.I wonder if it will start happening as I'm drinking at some point?"
I don't know if I like this.Seeing into someone else's life like that without their consent feels like a violation of privacy. But I can't keep from feeding.Wyatt is the obvious source, and we are mated now. However, it's one thing to learn about your partner from them telling you something, it's quite another to see into their most painful moments as if you were there. Will Wyatt fear me now? Will his family?
"Stop the car," Jagger says, cutting into my thoughts.
Wyatt pulls over to the edge of the road.
"I'm… I'll head back on my own."Jag pulls his shirt over his head.
"It'll take hours, even on four paws and with shifter speed," Wyatt states.
"I don't care.I'll meet you at the house."He looks around to make sure no traffic is coming, I assume, then strips off the rest of his clothes, shifts, and bounds off into the woods.
It's dark now, so I untangle myself from the blankets and get out to go sit up front with my mate, closing the door Jag left open behind me.
"Was it what I said?Is he afraid I might lose control and feed on him?See his memories?"
