When was the last time she’d turned a man on like this? All those times she’d cozied up on the couch with Ryan, not once had he shown any desire toward her. Not even when they’d kissed.

But Shane?

Holy smokes.

As someone who touched other people’s bodies for a living, Krista could instantly tell when one was tense. Shane had been on high alert as soon as he’d gotten into the tent, but her professionalism had kicked in and she’d done her best to ease the awkwardness. After all, she was doing her job. One friend to another.

Until now.

“Krista? Um...this isn’t what you might think.”

“Oh? You’re not turned on?”

“Fuck, yeah, but it doesn’t mean anything.”

“It’s just a chemical reaction, right?” She shifted slightly—not off him, just...alonghim. It made his breath hitch. “Are you sure it doesn’t mean anything?”

“All right, I guess it’s pretty obvious what it means,” he said, his voice strained, “but it’s not like I want anything to happen.”

Seriously? Well, wasn’t that just the story of her life. Would she ever drive a man to sexual distraction? Couldn’t she even make a man like Shane—a man not into love and commitment—lose control with desire?

“I’ve never had a one-night stand,” she said, still lying on him, getting wetter and wetter as his hardness pressed against her, justthere. “I’ve never had casual sex.”

“I thought as much.” Shane’s breathing was ragged, like he was pushing weights. “That’s why I said it doesn’t mean anything. So...um...Krista?”

“Hmm?”

“I’m gonna lie here and count to ten. If you don’t want anything to happen between us tonight, you leave. Okay?”

A shot of arousal revved her system up another thousand notches. Hedidwant to have sex with her!

“One,” Shane said.

Eh?“You’re seriously counting?”

“Two.”

“What about—”

“Three.”

Krista burst out laughing. This was ridiculous. For sure, she could leave and they both knew it. There was no need to count. “Shane, I—”

“Four.”

“Will you listen—”

“Five.”

“C’mon, can you—”

“Six.”

Krista grabbed his face and kissed him. His lips were hot, foreign, and delightful, with just the right amount of stubble to make all those zings shoot through her body full force. Deepening the kiss, she swept her tongue against his, her fingers in his hair, losing herself in an assault of thrills and jolts she’d never felt before. When they came apart, they were both panting.

“Ten.” Shane placed his hands gently on her hips. “You’re still here.”

“I am.” She rocked against him. “You were counting during the kiss?”
