“I see dead people.”

“Argh!” Shane screamed and shot backward from the uplit face in the corner, his blood roaring in his ears.

“Not so funny now, is it?” Krista said, still holding the torch to light up her face in that demonic way.

“You nearly gave me a heart attack!”

“You crapped yourself,” Krista hooted.

“You know what this means now, then?”

“What?”

“I have to kill you.” Krista squealed as Shane lunged for her and tickled her sides. She was shrieking and giggling so much that she dropped the torch, sending them both into darkness. “There’s no one to save you now,” he cackled like an evil villain.

“Serves you right!” she said, flat on her back and gasping for air between her laughter. “Just you wait until I tell everyone at work.”

“You wouldn’t dare.” Shane continued to tickle her, dodging her flaying arms and legs, until she was writhing beneath him and he’d somehow sunk between her thighs.

He stilled.

And so did Krista.

Her legs were spread wide and her soft boobs were squashed beneath his chest. He felt them rise and fall with each of her short and shallow breaths, and her mouth was so close to his that he could smell the mint of her toothpaste. Her fingers wrapped around his biceps. An invitation?Shane dipped his head a fraction closer to her lips—then halted. This was Krista. She was in love with Ryan, for god’s sake, and they were only here, together, because of some stupid payback scheme he’d concocted to save another battering to his ego. Not to...

“It’s—”

“I’d better—”

“Yeah.”

Shane rolled off her, and she scooted away from him.

“So!” Krista said, fumbling in the darkness. “We’re even, right? You got me. I got you. And...ta-da! Here’s the flashlight. Yay!” She switched it on. “See you tomorrow, scaredy cat.”

“Yep. See you tomorrow.” Shane angled his body so Krista could shuffle out of his tent. Her leg brushed against his thigh, and a thousand volts shot through him. A flash reminder of how close they’d been just a few seconds ago.

And how it had felt so damn hot.
