“Several months. We have just two seasons. Summer and Winter. I’ll see you later.” He kissed her head, then headed for the door.

“Vetuste,” she whispered.

He turned. “What?”

She sat up and rubbed her brow as lightning flashed into the room. “That’s his name, the ghost who first cornered me here. It’s what he told me to call him.”

“Was it the same one in the volcano?”

She winced, rubbing her brow. “I don’t know. The specter was white, the sorcerer red. But both had similar jagged scars on their faces.”

It was the same bastard, all right.

“Okay. Rest, my heart. I’ll see you later.” Then he walked out. They finally had a name.

FuckingVetuste!

CHAPTER40

After her shower,Leya changed into her jeans and a sweater, her body still humming from their intense lovemaking. At one point, when they first met, she’d been terrified of his powers, but now she smiled as she pulled on her boots. He had powers, and so did she.

ASiphon?

She shook her head, still held in a state of disbelief at what she was.

And her heart expanded with love for her intractable angel.

She never thought herself capable of this kind of deep, abiding love, feeling as if a part of her was missing even with him only gone downstairs.

Then she remembered what else he told her…

Dear God. I’m immortal!

Leya stopped dead, struggling to wrap her mind around the concept. Guess she’d try again in fifty or sixty years, when she still looked twenty-four. Grinning, she ran all the way down to the ground floor.

“My lady.” Mihr appeared from the opposite side of the corridor with a wide smile, carrying a tray of something heavenly smelling. “You’re up already? The sire asked me to bring you breakfast.”

Leya resisted rolling her eyes. She’d never had breakfast in bed, not even when sick, but fair enough, shehadbeen in a healing sleep for two months. However, she was okay now. “It’s all right. Besides, I like eating downstairs.”

“I’m so happy to see you up again, my lady. I thought for sure…” Her eyes dampened, and she blinked hard.

“I’m fine, really. It just took time for me to heal.”

“You found Elyon Dandre, my lady!” The smile returned, lighting Mihr’s pretty face. “Cidéra—all of Empyrea is humming with excitement. Soon, we will find the queen, too. They say you’ve brought a vast dose of magic back to us.”

Well, she didn’t know aboutthat.

“The dining room is laid out for the morning meal—oh, my lady, your eyes are beautiful.”

Leya blinked. The amber specks in her brown eyes were known to light up when she was laughing…happy. And she was happy. “Thank you.”

“Also, Elyon Anedaén’s here,” she whispered, like it was a huge secret as they headed for the dining room.

Leya bit back a smile.

“He’ll likely have his morning repast soon—oh, no! I should have helped you change into a gown!” Horror darkened Mihr’s eyes as she took in Leya’s jeans and sweater as if Leya had committed a cardinal sin by wearing them.

Maybe she had. If she’d known the king was coming, she would have worn a dress, but darn, it was too cold.
