This shit was wild as fuck. Everything they’d mentioned had been completely false, which was rather ironic. I was definitely guilty of plenty, but the police could only come with fabricated tales, or rumors, hoping that I’d fold under pressure, and get to talking.

I wasn’t panicking based o" what the police were saying. However, theactualdopethey’dfoundatmymama’swasa

different story. Somebody had to do time for that, and it damn sure wasn’t gonna be my mama. So, there was a huge possibility of me having to plea out, and do some prison time, which had me looking at everything differently.

Keeping it real, I couldn’t help but question if this was my karma. I’d snatched Babi right from underneath Too Low, and now I was possibly facing the same situation he was in. Babi would be out in the world, with my kids, and I couldn’t help but wonder if our foundation was solid enough.

Yes, we technically had a family together, but everything was still virtually new. We hadn’t been together through every weathering. Didn’t know if our love was bullet proof. And now, all I could do was pray that I’d betted on the right woman.

“What’s up?” I asked Babi through the tiny holes in the glass, as she was perched on the counter, with her ear up to the glass. “Where the kids at?”

“The twins are at home with Britt.” She responded in what sounded like a somewhat happy tone.

Her demeanor was definitely a stark contrast to how I’d last seen her. She was so emotional that her crying had been haunting my dreams. I worried about her mental health, but now…she seemed alright. Making me wonder what had happened.

“Okay.” I nodded. “What about the girls?”

She rubbed her brow. “I haven’t laid eyes on them.” I tilted my head. “Why is that?”

“Because. I went to pick them up like you told me to. But nobody answered the door. Then just as I was leaving, the owner of the house pulled up. His nasty ass was trying to flirt, and got to running his mouth. He told me that Tera had come to him, asking if she could break the lease, because she had a jealous ex that was harassingher.Hesaidthatheagreedtolethermoveandeven

refunded most of her security deposit, especially since she’d never fully moved in.”

I was momentarily speechless.

“And now, Tera aint taking nobody’s calls.” “You bullshitting?”

“No.” She shook her head. “And I don’t think that her little move was a coincidence. It was like she knew that you wasn’t coming back.”

“You know what?” I pointed a finger. “She was on some weird shit the day I went to jail. She lured me into that house, and was basically throwing the pussy at me. Then when it didn’t go how she wanted, she told me that I was finna get my karma or some shit.”

Babi calmly nodded, before licking her lips. “Okay. So, did you ever really confirm where she’d been, when she stopped coming around?”

“Nah.”Ishookmyhead.

“Well, I ran her name,” she shamelessly admitted. “And she got a townhouse out in Sugarland. It’s real nice. Still occupied too. She’s been staying there with Jarvin Branch.”

“Jarvin Branch?” I frowned. “Aint that…uh…” I snapped my

fingers.

“Too Low’s real name.”

Now, that shit caught me completely off guard. “Run that by me again.”

“Tera and Too Low been living together, Face. And I think that her popping up at the house out the blue was calculated. Not saying that she lied about the cancer. That probably was the only thing that she was truthful about. I don’t know how or when they linked, but he literally has bills in his name at her address.” She took a deep breath. “So, this is my theory onwhat happened. Too Low was mad about me and you. Maybe he knew Tera already.

Who knows? But at some point, they decided that they wanted to send you to jail. Maybe Tera came around on some bullshit, but was only gonna fall through with the plans, if you didn’t fuck with her like she wanted. I also think that they needed Tera to come back around to do what they did. They decided to plant that dope at your mama’s house. And then she called the police, once she had the girls with her.”

Listening intently, I nodded. “If she really been living with that nigga, then that sounds about right. But knowing that and proving it are two different things.”

“Right.” She tilted her head. “That’s why I’m finna tell you something, and please don’t run with some false narrative. I didn’t do this, because I cared about who Too Low dealt with. I just honestly always thought that he’d just never let me go peacefully. So, I told myself that the best way to deal with him was to keep him in my grasp. Know what he’s doing, or how he’s coming. Therefore, I had cameras installed in my apartment that nobody knew about.”

I furrowed my brows. “Nah, Ion know if I believe that shit. Cause why you had to pop up at the apartment to catch Mattie there, if you could’ve just looked at the cameras?”

She gulped. “Because. You like to go through my phone, Face. So, I had the surveillance connected to Soya’s phone. And she would only check the cameras periodically.”
