“Excuseme?”
“Bitch, you heard me!” I lashed. “You was on the phone with my man for over thirty fucking minutes, and I’m trying to see what the fuck is up.”
The hoe had the nerve to laugh at me.
“Bitch,Idon’tseeshitfunny.AndIhopethatyouhaven’t
been kissing Face’s nasty ass, cause that nigga was just sucking pussy, and eating ass, before he left this fucking house.”
“Wait,” she was now howling with laughter. “Babi, this is Auntie Queenie, girl. I just got a new number, and your man prob-ably haven’t gotten the chance to program it.”
Mymouthfellopen.“OhmyGod.Iamsosorry,auntie.
Please disregard everything I just said.”
“Girl, you good,” she tittered. “I know my nephew been over there giving you a hard time, and that’s why we was talking so long. I was getting on his ass.”
I sighed. “You aint lying about that. But I’ll call you from my phone, and we can talk more about it.”
“Okay, baby.”
“Okay, bye.” I ended the call.
Feeling shame, I handed Face’s phone back to him. He shook his head, holding back laughter. “That’s exactly what you get for snatching phones and shit.”
My nostrils flared, as I shoved his head back. “Nigga, fuck you.”
was back in the hood, chilling on my porch with Soya, Casey, and Chell.
“Girl, if she don’t stay her ass of Temu, buying them damn wigs,” Soya commented, as a girl from the hood strolled past the porch.
Looking at Tesha, everybody exploded with laughter. She was wearing a short Shirley temple wig that had absolutely no shape to it.
“Y’all leave her alone,” Casey snickered. “That’s just her walking to the store wig. She got some better ones.”
“Hell, nawl,” Soya hooted. “She aint got no business wearing that wig to the next room, less along to the damn store. Stop excusing that bullshit.”
I shook my head, as I smiled. “I told her that I’d braid her hair, but her cheap ass don’t wanna pay the fee. Told her that I only give these babies ‘round here the pro bono.”
Soya gazed at me, arching a brow. “You’ll braid her hair? I find
177
that odd, especially since I can’t get you to do my hair to save my life.”
I smirked. “Girl, stop being so dramatic. If you really wanted your hair done, then you’d drive out to the house. You be over there every Sunday, but any other time, you act like it’s too far.”
“Cause Sundays is different. That’s literally when all the niggas with money pulls up.” She wagged her tongue.
I cut my eyes at her. “I see your ass is just itching for Nolan to fuck you up. He already been accusing you of flirting with Face’s cousins.”
“Yeah,” she sighed. “That nigga do be tripping.”
I shook my head, knowing that Soya had to like the drama. She’d finally committed to one of her lil’ dips, and they’d gotten a place together. But Soya didn’t seem satisfied. She was always talking about the next man, sounding like she’d jump ship if the right opportunity fell into her lap.
“And I’m still waiting on my invitation to Sunday dinner, Babi,” Chell spoke up.
“Girl, you already know that Face aint going for that,” Soya interjected.
