him put some roots on ya ass. Cause I thought that I’dneversee the day.”

Even QT had to laugh at that. “No, bullshit, mama. I said the same thang.”

Soya tittered. “Nah, auntie. He put that thang on her. You should’ve seen the way he popped up at the apartment and slobbered her down. I aint never seen Babi in that form. I knew right then that Too Low was finna be crying.”

Nervously, I glanced over my shoulder, while my family all thought that shit was funny.

Face would have a stroke, if he walked up on us casually discussing Too Low at any level. Their first meeting would be over before it even started.

With my pregnancy, things were final. I’d stopped avoiding my family and had told everybody about me and Face. They were all in shock, because they didn’t think that I’d ever leave Too Low. And none of them had ever encouraged me to do so. Even with his stints in prison…because most of my family were damn criminals, and having to do time had been normalized. So, in their eyes, he’d been a good man to me, and understood why I’d been holding him down.

Of course, I didn’t want them thinking that I’d just shitted on my man out of nowhere, so I had to tell it all. And now, here they were, to form their own opinions about the choices I’d made.

Today, it was just Soya, Chase, QT, Soya’s mama, Auntie Didi, and my mama. I’d invited them over for the Sunday family day, and had met them at the door. Not surprising, they were the last to show up, and I was letting them talk their shit privately, before we joined the crowd.

“Okay, y’all—” I got out, before getting interrupted.

“Babi,”Faceuttered,asheroundedthecorner.“Whatchu

doing? It’s time to eat—” He paused, once he laid eyes on every-body. “Oh, y’all made it.” He smiled.

“Yeah. What’s up, my nigga?” QT greeted him, before they briefly embraced.

“Nothing too much,” Face lightly chuckled, as he stepped back and eyed my mama. “Hey, Ms. Titi. Nice to finally meet you. I’m Christian.” He hugged her, before she could say a word.

“Hey, baby.” She patted his back with a smile. “Nice to finally meet you too.”

He released her, as she sniffed.

“Umm. What is that scent you’re wearing? It smells so good.” She complimented.

“I can smell it too,” Auntie Didi added.

“Aww, thank you,” he blushed. “My Babi got it for me. It’s YSL, right, bae?” He glanced at me.

I nodded. “Yep.”

“Yeah,” Face continued. “Well, y’all come on, and let me intro-duce everybody.”

My family followed him through the house, and I basically stood back and watched. The greetings went well, while there was a full house, including all of Face’s immediate family.

Together, we all ate dinner, and laughed like I hadn’t laughed in years. My mama and Ms. Lulu, Face’s mama, had taken an instant liking to each other. So, they were kekeing it up, as they were having cocktails.

Eventually, we were all hanging in the family room comfort-ably, as Face had a custom sectional that circled the enormous room, leaving plenty of open floor space for the entertainment.

As the drinks got into everybody’s systems, the voices elevated, and the laughter intensified, leaving me a tad bitjealous, because I couldn’t drink. Face had only had one drink, before tapping out, and snuggling up against me.

The minute he became extra affectionate, wrapping his arms around me, kissing my lips, I couldn’t help but peek at my family to gauge their reactions. Naturally, Soya didn’t pay us no mind, because it wasn’t anything she hadn’t seen before. Auntie Didi was too busy turning up her cup. QT was just sitting back, sipping his drink, and laughing. Meanwhile, my mama briefly paused, arched a brow, before poking out her bottom lip, and gradually nodding.

“Let me find out that you scared to kiss me, while your mama is here,” Face lightly chuckled in my ear. “It’s too late to be bashful now.” He placed a hand on my stomach. “Mama know that you be popping it for daddy.”

Giggling, I lightly elbowed him. “Stop fucking playing.” “Aint nobody playing.” He bit my lip.

“Will you stop?” I quietly whined. “You always embarrassing me.”

We were literally hugged up on the couch like some damn teenagers.

“Face, why don’t you let that girl breathe,” Ms. Lulu teased.
