Sighing, I answered the call via Bluetooth. “Hey, baby.” “Where you at?” Face immediately questioned.
“On the way to that event like I told you.” “You sure?”
“Yes. Why you ask?”
“Shit, I’m trying make sure that you didn’t take a ride up to Huntsville.”
“Huntsville?” I frowned.
“Yeah,don’tplaycrazynow.Weknowexactlywherethat nigga’s at.”
“Right. But why would I get in your vehicle to drive to see him?”
“Stranger shit has happened.” “You tripping,” I grumbled. “Am I really?”
“Yes.”
“How is that?”
“Cause,” I sighed, while cutting my eyes at Soya, knowing that
she was all ears. “You really started a whole argument this morning for nothing. And that aint even us.”
“I started a whole argument, because I asked why was you renewing your lease?”
“But we both know that it aint that simple. My cousins still live in that apartment. So, letting that apartment go would mean that they have to find somewhere else to live.”
“And I literally told you that I got a few spots they can crash at for a minute. But that wasn’t enough for you.”
“Yeah. Cause you just want everything to go your way. You never compromise.”
“How I don’t compromise when you literally accepting collect calls from your ex?”
“My ex?”
“Yeah, that’s what he is.” “See, you tripping.”
“Nah, you tripping,” he rebutted.
“It’s like you manipulate everything. At first you said that you wasn’t tripping about my situation. Then you try to change every-thing about it. I can’t answer my phone in your presence. Not even when I’m in another room. But when I say that I’ma go home for a couple of days, then you start with the bullshit. Then I never end up going. Even my family is beginning to feel some type of way. Soya was just mentioning how she haven’t laid eyes on me in over two months.”
“Is she in the truck with you now?” “Yeah.”
“Can she hear me?” “Yes.”
“Okay. Hey, Soya,” he spoke. “Hey,” she responded.
“I just wanna clear the air. I tell your cousin all the time that
you are more than welcome to come to the house. All the family is welcome. But she so worried about something getting back to that nigga that she’s alienating her own people. So, it aint me.”
“Oh, I already know,” Soya claimed. “I was just telling her the same thing.”
“See?”
“Right,” she giggled. “Anyway.” I rolled my eyes.
“Yeah, anyway,” Face repeated. “How long is this book event supposed to last?”
