CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
Gavin
The beach house was situated on a wooden decked platform with a few steps that headed straight down onto the beach. It was like heaven had opened up and blessed us with its purity. I inhaled the fresh sea air as my head fell back onto my shoulders and gazed up as the breath left my lungs. There wasn’t a cloud that littered the bright blue sky as it met the horizon smoothly, like the sky and sea just blended into one picturesque scene.
I was in love.
When I was a kid, I loved the seaside. I’d play in the sand for hours with a bucket and spade - oh, the simple life. My mother said to never forget your younger days because they were the best years of your life… that was one of the rare moments before I was a screw up and she actually seemed to care. I never believed what she said back then, but now, fuck, she and millions of other mothers that had said that to their kids, were so right. But as much as British seaside was nice, this was even more beautiful.
Right now, I wished I was that kid again.
No problems.
No worries.
No complications.
It was a spur of the moment thing to ask Karen to come with me. The thought had entered my head before I had time to think about what I was doing. I didn’t want to be here alone. Something inside beckoned me to share this with her. What the fuck was wrong with me?
What is it about her that had me thinking so differently.
She listened to me last night. No one had ever given me their undivided attention like that. Maybe Roman did at times, but I think even he thought it was his duty at times.
“It’s so beautiful out here.” Her gentle voice pulled me out of my head as I turned to look at her. She met my eyes with a soft smile gracing her lips.
“You’re right, it is.” As I looked out, her hair tickled my arm as she rested her head against my shoulder.
“How long has Roman had this place?”
“A couple of months after they arrived. He bought it for when his celebrity status got too much for them, and they needed a break. They came up here in the first few months, but since then, they haven’t had the time.”
As she rounded me, her hands found my waist and tightened her fingers on my hips. “It’s stunning.”
“I thought you’d appreciate it.”I wound my arm around her shoulder and we stayed like that for few moments.
“I do. Thank you.” She smiled around the teeth that were embedded into her bottom lip. “Wait here.” I turned to watch her jog back up to the house and disappear at the top of the steps. I turned back to the scene in front of me. My skin tingled as the light breeze blew gently, but it wasn’t the breeze that made my skin pebble, it was because of her. My senses were floodedwith her, and as I looked over my shoulder, there she was, with that bloody camera.
“I should’ve guessed you wouldn’t leave that at home.”
“Hey. This comes everywhere.”
I grinned. I already knew that anyway. I felt her lips on the back of my shoulder. “No one is safe from my lens, even you, Gavin Wright.”
“Is that right?” I finally pulled myself away from the postcard worthy view, and swapped it for another as she clicked away. Only this one wasn’t only beautiful; it was sexy and had me rock hard in my shorts. I swept the loose hair from her eyes, dipped my head and kissed her. As she melted against me, I let my hand drift to hers and grabbed her camera, I snatched it away from her, laughing. I jumped back and lifted it to my face. It couldn’t be that hard to take a photo. As her pretty face filled the lens, I clicked. Her face lit up as she smiled back at me. I took some different shots before she’d had enough and advanced towards me. “What do you want?”
“My camera. You’ve had your fun.”
“Fun? Baby, I haven’t even started yet.”
“Don’t be an asshole.” She warned.
“Too late for that. I’ve always been an arsehole.” I smiled wider, enjoying this playful moment.
“Gav.”
“Karen?” My head shook as I mimicked her. She launched forward, my hand shot out and I held her forehead. She tried her hardest to smack me but couldn’t reach, she swung wildly as I laughed and locked my elbow.
I held the camera up again and snapped another picture as she tried to fight me off. Her hands swiped at my chest but missed every time. “Give me my camera.”
