“I would like to see how things play out for a little while longer. I’m curious how Dr. Christie will respond with her final offer.”
Don’t hold your breath. Sette was a romantic. She probably thought the money dirtied their masterful connection.I like being with her.She could be a good friend as well as a client. Something more than that? Miquela was more the type of woman June preferred to have as a client. Someone hot, rich, fun, jet-setting, and staying out of her damn hair most of the time!
“Should be a blast,” June sighed. “Now, if it’s fine with you, I think I’ll go die in my bed for a while. I can barely walk as it is after two nights in a row with Miquela.” Did the woman ever show her poor body any mercy? No. Bless her for it, but dear heavens.
June saw herself out of Monique’s chambers. As she collapsed in her bed five minutes later, she imagined someone there with her. One thing could be said for all this attention from both women. They knew how to make a girl feel comforted while she slept.
Felt a bit lonely now.
When Monique had gone home to the city, June boldly snuck into her office and rummaged through the latest client files to find Sette and Miquela’s numbers. She was on camera, and she didn’t care.
Once she had those numbers in her phone, she returned to her room and called Sette.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about our time together,” she said, not giving her client time to speak. “You claim to love me – no, shush, let me speak – but how do you know that this isn’t madness while in the throes of just… being together? I’m good at selling a fantasy, Sette. You need perspective. Which is why I’m giving you homework before we see each other again.”
“Huh?”
That was the only sound June allowed from Sette’s side of the phone. “You’re gonna find someone to seduce. Whatever that means to you, I don’t care. Sleep with someone else. For the love of God. Make sure it’s me you really want before you go throwing your life away for me.”
“What?”
“You hear me? Get on an app or go to the gay bar. You’re not gonna hurt my feelings.” Maybe a little, but June was used to this aspect of her job by now. “Next time you see me, there will be another someone under your belt, and you’ll know for sure if what you feel for me is real.”
“June—!”
She hung up. Without missing a beat, she called Miquela, who had just gotten out of the shower.
When June finally tossed her phone onto her bed, she swore her soul had left her body, and her heart had shut itself off. Sheneeded the reset, anyway. Like her clients, June Kingsley was in deep need of some perspective.
At least one of them couldn’ttrulylove her. They’d see. Soon enough, they would see.
Chapter 11
Sette
“You sure know how to blow an afternoon,” Sette said, lounging on one of many chairs along the port side of the Priss & Moan. She had a fruity drink in one hand. The kind that she secretly loved but would never be caught dead with in public. The marina didn’t count as public. Zara did not count as public.
At the moment, Zara was making the rounds on her vessel, texting a personal assistant about improvements she wanted to make and, oh, would she do the honor of researching how much that would cost? She was also thinking about buying a small charter plane for her own amusement. Between throwing herself in death machines and playing loose and fancy-free with the possibility of STDs all over the city, Zara sure had a death wish of some kind. Probably thought life wasn’t worth living otherwise.
Shit, did Sette ever need someone like that in her life.
“This is the only way to blow an afternoon.” Zara coiled some rope, then decided she hated this kind of rope. Should she get another kind? What kind of rope were the other assholes using? Sette tuned her out until she said something worthwhile again. “Although that reminds me… the girls should be here within an hour.”
“The girls, huh?”
“So. Hot.” Zara dropped her ropes. “I met them at Lucky’s the other night. They’re not twins, but you would think they are. Because they’re both equally hot.”
“Uh… huh. So happens that there are two of them, of course.”
Zara slapped her hand on Sette’s shoulder, almost making her spill her drink. “It’s time for you to date a woman who is not milking your wallet dry in return for milking your heart dry. Hey, I ain’t gonna judge your love for June, but you should expand your horizons if hers are expanded 24/7.”
“Excuse you. That’s a lady we’re talking about.”
Zara rolled her eyes. “She plays the lady well, all right,” she mumbled. “Anyway, Toya and Tanya will be here soon. If you don’t want one of them, I’ll take both. I did the other night, so why not?”
“I can’t believe you sometimes.”
“It’s rich that a Ms. Monogamy like you would be enamored with…”
