“Why?” Letty stared at the photos before turning her head to Rhea.

“Unknown, but here’s the kicker. Pike’s been pushing for stricter oversight on marina development permits.”

Letty’s eyes widened. “And Hargrove’s buying more marina property.”

Cal took out his phone. “Either someone wanted Pike gone and missed, or someone wanted to scare him.”

Wyatt blew out a hard breath. “If someone orchestrated this incident without regard to civilian casualties and realizes Dr. Duval has photos, that makes her a loose end.”

The words hung in the air as Letty bristled. “I’m not stopping.” She sighed. “They hurt people.”

Rhea tapped the keyboard again. “I’ll dig deeper into Hargrove’s financials and find the CCTV for the past few days.”

Letty drifted out of the room and down the stairs. She grabbed a drink out of the fridge in the lounge and stepped onto the railing by the water near their dock. “How did I get myself into this mess?”

A voice answered. “You aren’t careful.”

Letty smirked. “I’m careful enough, still kicking.”

An explosion in the distance caused them both to turn as Cal yelled from upstairs. “Get up here!”

They took the stairs quickly and entered the room to hear Rhea.

“Local emergency channels just announced there’s been an explosion.” She took out her phone to scan a text. “Councilman Pike’s car just exploded in his driveway.”

“Casualties?” Cal asked.

“Unknown,” Rhea replied.

Wyatt growled. “They’re cleaning up.”

Letty met his gaze. “Then we better move faster.”

Four hours later, Letty stood out back on the railing next to the dock, sheltered under the Salt & Steel overhang. Movement caught her eye as Wyatt appeared. “You shouldn’t leave without me.”

She focused on the location of what she saw and answered Wyatt. “I didn’t leave. I’m still here.” She raised her hand. “Someone was watching from over there.”

Wyatt moved up alongside her. The aroma of sandalwood and peppermint filled her nose. The scent and his presence relaxed her shoulders as she pointed to the shore.

“Where?” Wyatt asked.

She pointed to a small figure. “There. The person walking away wore a blue shirt and jeans, maybe.”

Wyatt’s gaze flickered to the man who had moved behind an umbrella. “Let’s go back inside.”

Letty nodded, allowing his warm hand on her back to guide her back into Salt & Steel.

WYATT

Rhea’s stomach rumbled, and Letty chuckled. “Well, I guess we both need a break.”

“Yeah. We could order out. The owner of Barnacle and Beam likes me; they’ll deliver.”

“I’m starving. Got a menu?”

Wyatt sat just outside the room, listening to the women. He stood up and grabbed the menu off the cork board as he walked into the room. “Here.” He gave the menu to Letty.

“Where’d you come from?” Rhea inquired.
