That won’t happen again, she said to herself.

I am here. Come to me.

She called to the Corvids and pushed her wings further, flying up higher into the night sky, as if reaching for her moon, trying to feel the kiss of her source.

When she summoned her power, she clenched her teeth, fueling her inner fury. She would do this. They would end this nightmare.

Storm clouds began to churn wildly above her.

A sea of loud caws echoed through the distance, and she called to them once more, feeling their love descend upon finally seeing her.

She looked to the dark swirling storm circling the Palatium, and her eyes narrowed. Tievel stood upon the tall tower’s battlement, laughing as he watched the destruction around him. He clutched the stone in his hand tightly, holding it up in the air with his fist.

Seda’s palms tightened, and lightning began to descend from the sky, striking the top of the Palatium, missing Teivel by mere feet.

She flew closer to the faux Monster King as thunder roared so loudly across the land that the Palatium shook, releasing the loosened, crumbling bricks onto the ground below.

Seda could see the Jotnar falling into painful nightmares from Kalon’s magic. Long strands of green mist erupted from Cahir and wrapped around them, choking them to their deaths. Massive vines snaked up from the earth from the Vatte, coiling around the Rozzers and Dragors tightly and choking them to the ground.

Tievel looked up at the sky, his face darkening as he let out an evil laugh when their eyes locked onto each other.

“Seda! You have returned!” His laughter echoed through the oily magic and slammed into her, pushing her back.

The Corvids began to circle, flying around her in a hurricane of feathers, lightning, and rain.

It was time to end him.

It was time to give them the Darkened.

Chapter 48

Ael

The Jotnar were massive beings, and the quantity of magic needed to take them down was quickly burning him out. Ael had promised he wouldn’t overexert himself again and switched to using his sword, driving it into the Dragors and Rozzers with ease.

Kalon fought alongside him, taking down the Jotnar one by one with nightmare-inducing pain, then rushing up to them and slicing their throats to save his magic, his moth tattoo on his neck glowing a fiery red.

Suza, Jason, Mordred, and Sara, unable to fight, were guiding the frantic citizens toward the openings in the nearby walls.

Suza occasionally used her ability to transport people more quickly, but her magic was weak, and she could only use it every few minutes.

She and Sara ran back to them after transporting a mother and her child to the nearest exit, away from the destruction.

“Look!” Suza yelled, pointingto the sky.

Ael drove his sword into a Dragor carrying a bloodstone blade and kicked the body away from him before glancing up.

The sun began to rise rapidly, shifting the sky from the moon’s amber glow to pinks, reds, and burning-ember hues.

It came to rest just behind the moon, and the land below smoldered beneath a solar shadow edged in flame.

The storm clouds parted, as if making way to the magical retribution of the heavens.

“The Darkened,” Jason said in awe as he looked up. His mouth hung open, and his eyes were wide as he pointed to the sky.

A swarm of Corvids flew, rising as one, creating a living vortex of shadow and feathers. They transformed into a dragon form, Elco at the forefront, matching the Rising members’ tattooed design.

High above the Palatium’s silhouette, Seda unfurled her wings, and her beats sent glittering motes of starlight into the air, pulsating from her very being. She flew above like divinity itself, the storm clouds bowing to her command of justice.
