“No fucking way,” Grace’s gasping voice rings in my ears, and when I scroll down further, I’m momentarily shocked.

All of the girls start talking over one another, expressing their shock, disgust, and confusion. Yet, none of that quite reaches my ears, their voices fading into the background. The image is staring back at me, almost as if to mock me.

It’s an image of Astrid and Sawyer kissing. It’s blurry, with the main focus being their hands that are in the main view, with two matching, white gold wedding bands.

My heart sinks to my feet, and I feel my eyes start to get watery. He went ahead and married the bitch. The pain of the betrayal consumes me, and I let the tears fall down my face freely.

It’s not the fact that he married Astrid.

Well, I would’ve been pissed regardless.

It’s mainly that his girlfriend — well, now wife — shared the most intimate images of me, which she obtained illegally, only to hurt me for no reason, and he still chose her. He took her side without a second thought, not once asking me if I was okay.

“Are you okay, Soph?”

Avalon’s soft voice snaps me out of my trance, and I return to the call, making sure to screenshot the image first. I blink the tears away, wiping them with the back of my palm. The girls fall silent, and I don’t know what to say.

“I’m hurt,” I admit, looking down. “It just means I never really knew him.”

“Do you think your dad will go through with his threat and hand you the business?”

“Yes,” I nod. “No doubt. He won’t want a Ford as his in-law, ever.”

“Do you think they got married just because he knocked her up?”

Grace asks, and Avalon is visibly tensing up. If Grace were next to her, she’d get smacked. I take a deep breath, looking up at the ceiling.

“God, I hope not.”

“Because if she is, do you think he’ll still cut him off?”

I sigh, shaking my head. “He won’t cut him off entirely, either way. He’s not so petty as to disown him, and no matter who Sawyer married, he’d still get the inheritance. But no matter how many millions he may get as his inheritance, it’s nothing compared to the several hundred billion that the oil company is worth.”

Avalon’s eyes almost drop out of her sockets. “Your father’scompany is worth how much?!”

“We’re the leading oil company across the entirety of the United States, Ava.”

“Still! That’s an insane amount of money!”

“Is Soren’s worth that much, too?” Lila asks.

“Eh, a bit less, but still in the billions. They’re right behind us.”

“Fucking hell,” Grace mutters. “I should’ve gone into oil as my career.”

I shrug. “There’s still time.”

“Ask your father to take me in as his apprentice,” Grace mutters. “I want to learn.”

“Ask him yourself,” I roll my eyes.

“Speaking of your father,” Avalon says, taking the last bite of her apple. “He’s probably losing his shit right about now.”

“That just means I’ll go home the first weekend,” I wince. “I’m dreading it already.”

“What about Astrid, though?”

My brows narrow. “What about her?”
