We saw his hand

BACK

Ruby:

IT WAS VERY LIGHT

STOP MAKING IT SOUND LIKE HE HANDCUFFED ME

Trey:

Did he

Because I would support that narrative

Ruby:

GOODBYE

CHAPTER 41

Ruby

By the time we reach his office, my pulse is out of control.

He closes the door behind us.

Turns toward me.

And the look he gives me, soft, fierce, certain, undoes me completely.

“Ruby,” he says quietly, “come here.”

And god help me, I do.

Time moves weird after “Come to me tonight.”

Like the world knows I’m about to make terrible, delicious choices and decides to speed-run the afternoon.

I try to work. I really do.

But my brain is a slideshow of:

His hands

His mouth

The way he said “I haven’t stopped thinking about you”

The way he said “Tonight” like a promise

The way my body reacted like a Pavlovian thirst trap

By 5pm, I’m vibrating.
