Tom can be spontaneous, but he checks in with us. “Did you talk to Amber?”
Dante shakes his head. Fuck, no one wants to talk to Amber.
We all went to high school together. Amber was a constant for Tom. They’d fuck for a while and then break up and then get back together, or not, but still fuck. If he isn’t here in the mornings, he’s sometimes at her place.
“I’m not calling her,” I say. She can be a royal bitch. She’s also made it clear she wouldn’t mind a threesome with me and Tom. That’s not happening.
“Fine.” Dante sets his laptop down and pulls out his phone. He puts it on speaker and dials. Asshole.
“What?” Amber sounds angry.
“Tom with you?” Dante doesn’t mince words.
“Why the fuck would he be with me? He’s a fucking asshole.” Amber’s rage practically vibrates the phone. “Did you know he asked me for a threesome? With my roommate? Who’s a woman? Like he wanted permission to cheat with my roommate by including me.”
Rolling his eyes, Dante clicks the End button. “He’s not there.”
“You could have asked when she saw him last. That might have been right before he disappeared to make sure she didn’t call him for a while.”
She’ll get over any perceived wrong Tom does to her. I don’t understand their relationship or fuck buddy status or whatever the fuck they’re doing now.
Dante arches an eyebrow and holds out his phone. “You can call her back.”
“Call who back?” Finn walks out of his bedroom, freshly showered and cocky as ever. My eyes narrow on him. Something went down that he doesn’t want me to know. I’m sure of it.
“Amber.” Dante sets his phone down. “How’s pipsqueak?”
Finn nods. “Locked inside her tower without her suitor. Drew Young. He seems serious about her and she seems into him.”
Jealousy twists my stomach. I’ve watched Sara for years. I could tell this time was different when she mentioned she had a date. It wasn’t to taunt me. She was angry her date got interrupted, but she didn’t toss it into the conversation to rile me up.
“Was she mad at you?” I ask. After all, he interrupted her date again.
Finn grabs a beer from the refrigerator. “You know Sara.”
That’s vague. He sits on the couch and drinks from the bottle.
“Did anything else happen? Were her parents there?” It’s like pulling teeth tonight with Finn. My fingers itch to check the security cameras surrounding the townhouse. Tom helped set them up, so I know the password.
“She’s supposed to let me know when they get home.” His phone dings. He glances at it. “Apparently, they’re home.”
She was home alone with her date? Fuck, maybe this one is serious. She didn’t take him to a restaurant she knew I’d be at like she normally does. My heartbeat quickens. This should be good. Maybe seeing her with someone serious will finally cure me of the aching need for her.
“We should check on her tomorrow.” I rub the back of my neck. Those cameras wouldn’t show me her. “Either that or install fucking cameras to check on her. We don’t know what Tom has gotten her or us into.”
Finn shakes his head. “Nah, we don’t need cameras. She’s secure and Sundays are family days. They usually go to brunch and shit like that.”
He’s right. I’m overreacting. I need to chill. Shaking out my hand, I focus on the password problem.
“She starts with us on Monday.” Dante’s gaze meets mine.
I’ve been preparing for this since Tom told us it was happening. Three months of her showing up in our office. Three months of seeing her almost every day. It will be torture and pleasure every moment of every day.
That burning need to possess her will drive me insane as she flits around our office.
“I’ll deal with her.” Dante’s lips thin. Tom was supposed to watch over her. If Tom was there, it would keep me in check.
“I could help with her.” Finn drinks more beer. “We get along well enough.”
