CHAPTER 1

Mariyah Hayworth braced herself as she walked into the correctional faculty to see her brother who she admittedly put there. It wasn't her fault, Mariyah often found unwanted attention everywhere she went. She didn’t mean to be a flirt, well not all the time anyway and had no idea that her brother Caleb who had one too many drinks decided to smash a beer bottle over the man’s head The glass shattered and pieces of glass found its way into the poor man’s head causing brain damage. She was a stupid twenty four year old girl who sometimes didn’t think and well… Her brother was the one to pay the price.

This would be the first time that Mariyah had visited him in the maximum security prison in over a year.

After being frisked by the guards who didn't seem to mind checking her again and again saying that she could be holding weapons, Mariyah tried really hard not to cry.Even the female guards were feeling her up.

Once that ordeal was over Mariyah went into the meeting room and felt very uneasy as she waited nervously for her brother to arrive. She sat quietly not wanting to draw any attention.Definitely did not want attention from anybody here.

Mariyah recalled that stupid day, she had been dancing on the sand with her friends having a good time and loving the attention she was receiving by men and women alike. This one man just didn’t seem to understand that she just wanted to have a little fun from afar. The idiot wanted to feel her up, touch her ass and Caleb who was not much of a fighter decided to take action. In his alcoholic induced head he thought why not, let’s smash this unsuspecting man over the head with a glass bottle… What could possibly go wrong?

Mariyah was always one to receive plenty of attention and never really minded it, she had long light brown hair which dropped into heavy curls down to her mid back. Her eyes had been described as crystal colored because of how blue they were, she had dark thick lashes and full lips that she thought were a little too full for her face.Mariyah also described her face as a little chubby making her look like a child.Men seemed to go crazy for her.Not that she minded, it was a literally flattering to have this kind of attention everywhere she went.

She shook her head hating at where her looks led her… Led her to visit her brother in prison… Caleb had warned her time and again not to visit him.Said it wasn’t the place for her and she now understood why he would advise her against coming.

Of course Mariyah being Mariyah did not heed warning and decided to surprise the only human on earth she had left.He was in jail because of her, the least she could do was visit.

There he was, her brother who had features very similar to her own came out of the doors with a guard, he was chained up and Mariyah wanted to break down and cry.In a heartbeat Mariyah threw herself into his arms and hugged him tightly without hesitation the guard pulled her away."No physical contact with the prisoner."Mariyah moved away swallowing back the lump in her throat.

The guard backed away giving them some privacy.Caleb's face looked thinner and he had dark circles under his eyes."I thought I told you not to come around? It's too dangerous."

"I know Caleb, but I needed to see you, I miss you so much."

"I miss you too Mari, but the guys in here a real bad, I would rather they think I have nobody, that way they can't hurt me."

"What do you mean hurt you?Are they physically hurting you Caleb?"

"It doesn't matter anymore, I have only a year left, just keep away."Mariyah didn't want to cause anymore trouble for her brother, she had done enough damage. They made small talk not really knowing what else to do, she wasn't about to waste a visit.Took Caleb a while to relax but eventually he did and they even shared a laugh. He promised her that when he got out that they would move out of the little secluded house by the beach they lived in and would move to a proper house.

While in the middle of a discussion Caleb's face went white, he stopped talking and Mariyah had no idea why, she turned to see what he was looking at, an inmate who was covered in tattoo's was looking directly at Mariyah, sure he was good looking with dark eyes, this guy had a nice body, very muscular, especially his arms but nothing to catch her interest."Caleb, who is that?"

"Mari, don't look at him, please, he is bad news, he runs the whole show in here.If he chooses to make my life miserable believe me he is more than capable of doing it.Just look at me."Mariyah did as he asked, she could feel the electricity in the air change.

"Caleb, I'm going to try find you a lawyer, maybe your sentence can be reduced and not only that, maybe if you’re having too much trouble in here they might be able to move you."

"Its better the devil you know, I'll hang around here till I've done my time.Don't spend any more money on lawyers, you need it to survive.I will keep my head low until I'm out.I'll call you okay?Promise me you won't visit me here anymore."

"I promise, do you need me to get you anything, I mean whatever you want."Caleb shook his head.

The announcement for all visitors to leave was heard, Mariyah quickly grabbed Caleb's hands."Valeria asks about you every day.She wanted to come and see you.I told her next visit."Mariyah noticed how sad Caleb looked at the mention of his ex girlfriend.

"Tell her to forget me.I'll call you."With that said the guards escorted Caleb back inside.Mariyah was so depressed at the sight of her brother being taken away that she almost broke down in sobs once the door closed behind him.

"Lady, you need to leave."Mariyah turned to see a male guard, he was with that guy that Caleb told her to stay away from, he looked scarier up close, hot but still scary.

"You Caleb's girl?"The mean looking dude asked Mariyah. She eyed him suspiciously and the guard waited patiently for her to answer, why wasn't he being escorted back in like every other inmate?

"I'm his sister."

"You shouldn't be walking around dressed like that, especially not in here, unless of course you are after some attention."Mariyah drew in a breath, she did not want to get on this man’s wrong side, she did not want to cause any more shit for her brother but he was very insulting and Mariyah had to hold her tongue to stop herself saying something she might regret.

"You’re right, thanks for the advice."Knowing it was in her best interest to leave she turned her back and started walking away. She was dressed okay, like a simple denim skirt that sat just above her knees and a simple fitting tee-shirt.It was decent enough.

"Not finished with you yet, come back here."His voice held no argument. She turned back to see what wanted and noticed the guard just happen to turn a blind eye.The inmate took a seat at the table."Sit down."He ordered her so arrogantly, like it was his god given right to speak to her that way.Mariyah reluctantly walked back to him, slowly and hesitantly but what else could she do?Her brother had another year in here, she didn't want to make matters worse for Caleb."Sit."He indicated for her to sit down on the chair by nodding his head.Obediently Mariyah sat on the chair opposite him.

"What's your name?"Oh god.

"Mariyah."
