My phone chimed, cutting through our conversation.
Yeah, chimed.I’d made a special tone for Evira’s messages.
“It’s Evira,” I told Vaxan, as I pulled my phone from my leather jacket pocket.
Focusing, I swiped open the message that had come in.
Evira:Got a lock on Winter’s scent. I’ll approach and contain. Standby.
Zayn:Will do, icicle.
I relayed the information to Vaxan and stowed my phone away.
“We should be there for him also,” he announced, about to go around me to the exit.
I dodged into his path, blocking his way.
“You mean the guy he ran away from? And me, the guy who’s been breaking his heart?”
He glared at me for several tense moments.
And then he blew out a breath and rubbed his crown. “I cannot believeyouare functioning as the voice of reason currently.”
“Yeah, well, this entire night has been an epic mind-fuck, so just go with it.”
More glaring.
And then he startled me as he snapped his fingers and his citrine magic swept through the room in the form of a sparkling wave that sanitized and tidied everything until it was in an immaculate state again.
“What the—”
He moved up close, making my words—and breath—catch in my throat.
“You’re correct. We need to wait.”
I swallowed. “Well… good.”
“Yes,” he uttered, a snake-like hiss along for the ride this time as he raked his gaze over me.
I shifted under the scrutiny and sucked in an unsteady breath. “Glad we finally agree on—”
His hand shot out and grasped my jaw.
“Kneel to me.”
Fuck.
It was happening.
It was actually… here.
I smirked at him as our gazes clashed. “Oh,hell, yeah.”
His enthralling serpentine eyes burned into mine. They were really something. Fucking gorgeous. And they held me captive.
Nah, truth was, I let them hold me captive.
I wanted them to.
