“Um–”
“You’re Sparrow,” she said.
The other women gasped, but then Daisy asked, “Who’s Sparrow?”
Looking up, I asked, “How do you know about that?”
Mama Hen grinned. “Honey, not a lot happens to my boys without me knowing about it.”
“Oh, this is getting good,” Shiv said as she grabbed a piece of cheese.
“Not to be forward, but I get the impression you think I did something to him when it was kind of the other way around.”
“A hundred percent, but he was torn up over you for years. Never was the same after that.” She looked around the table. “He used to talk.”
Lucy, Daisy, and Shiv all stared with their mouths open.
“I–he doesn’t talk? Falcon mentioned that but I thought he just meant he was quiet.”
Daisy put her hand over mine. “Girl, I’ve never heard his voice. Not even a grunt.”
The others all nodded in agreement.
“Maybe he’s quiet around ladies?” I offered as some kind of explanation.
Mama Hen shook her head. “I wish that were the case, hon. But apparently the spell was broken. He’s talking now.”
The other women’s mouths fell even wider than before. I’d always envisioned getting some kind of revenge for how he left me, but knowing he lived this way for so long broke myheart.
“I need to know everything,” Shiv said. “And hustle up before all the guys come for dinner. They’re so nosy.”
Chapter 14
Rooster
“Exciting run?” Hawk asked as he sat at the head of the table in our Church room.
We weren’t officially having Church, but there was no eavesdropping of that room. Eagle hadn’t gotten back from work yet, Red was with us, and the other officers were in Jersey still.
“Mmhhmm.”
“So, the Hellbound Heathens aren’t gone after all?” Hawk asked as he leaned back in his chair.
I cleared my throat. “Seems that way. Not sure if they just moved to Cincy or if there’s others.”
Red stared me down with a shit-eating grin.
Rolling my eyes, I growled. “What?”
Red threw his hands up. “Hey man, just can’t believe you’re so chatty. So, she’s here?”
“She is.”
“Is she staying?” Red asked.
“You can catch up on your schoolgirl gossip after we’re done,” Hawk interjected. “I checked in briefly with Petrov and Keys is doing a little searching but we may need to do some recon.”
“I didn’t recognize any of them.”
